Harry Potter going to Hogwarts, Metaverse style

It was an exciting week as my daughter asked some difficult questions to understand Metaverse. As they say, the most difficult questions are the ones that start from the basics. Here is how I resorted to Harry Potter and Hogwarts to bring Metaverse alive for her. Let us see if you enjoy reading this week's edition.

Before we reach platform Nine Three-quarters (9 3/4) to board Hogwarts Express, let us purchase our ticket to this exciting journey. Hogwarts has sent Harry a list of essential items for budding wizards and witches. Oh, but Hagrid has taken a long time to pick Harry up because of a stormy night and Dursley's mischief, and there is not enough time to visit Diagon Alley to purchase items. They can get their shopping items delivered directly to the train station using the virtual reality-powered e-commerce experience of Diagon Alley shopkeepers. Harry wants to remotely buy a magic wand, telescope, cauldron, and books while reaching the train station with Hagrid.?Hagrid said he will gift Harry an owl - Hedwig.

Oh, there is a catch. The wand chooses its master, and it needs to experience Harry to be sure about its master. No problem, this is where our augmented reality will come to Harry's rescue. Augmented reality can overlay?visual, auditory, or other sensory information onto the world to enhance experience. Finally, Harry has selected the right wand, and the order completes.?

I wish life were as simple as we want it to be. Harry needs to pay for the items he has purchased from Diagon Alley. The catch is they don't use muggle money (USD, INR, EURO, etc.) , nor does Harry have any cash with him. And looking at Ollivanders, it is clear that the shop owner, Garrick Ollivander, doesn't support Cash on Delivery as yet. What would Harry do now?

Thankfully, his parents left him a fortune, but that is stored in Gringotts Bank guarded by Goblins who were far from digital transformation and required Hagrid to present the golden key to be allowed withdrawal. In our Meta world, they use cutting-edge technology and rely on #blockchain to conduct transactions. Since Harry was born before his parents died, they created a node in the blockchain system for Harry, and now he can reliably make the transaction to pay for his wand.

Finally, Harry is set to board Hogwarts Express from Platform 9 3/4 and reach his dream destination Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Metaverse is not something completely new, but a platform that brings existing technologies together and transforms experiences to shrink the distances further and open up a new world for conducting business. There is a long road before Metaverse becomes a reality. We need the pervasiveness of intelligent surfaces, a reliably connected world, and acceptance of 7D experiences for long hours.
