The Metaverse: The First Singularity of Our Times

The Metaverse: The First Singularity of Our Times

The value creation cycle gets exponentially faster, and that’s natural - a measure how the Future of Civilisation, of humanity, is at the cusp of a quantum leap.. forward. Or shall we say, reaching for the stars? It’s a two stage process ain’t it. First, escape from this 3rd rock from the sun, we become as Elon puts it, multi-planetary. Then eventually, our thirst for knowledge, our need to connect and communicate, powers our starships to go explore the final frontier: space.?

Yes- just food for thought- we are already (ALREADY) doing all that! And that’s why the metaverse is the 1st Singularity of our times. Just like Kaiju from the Pacific Ocean; we weren’t looking at the right place! Or perhaps just like Ant-Man getting lost in the Quantum Realm - the metaverse is a new Infinite Economy inwards of ourselves, the very figment of our imagination! Picasso said it, bless him, whatever we can imagine is (indeed) real!?

Our minds, worse, our collective minds, it’s a dangerous place. We;ve not willed our shaped, it bends and folds, this meta ‘ether’ of dreams, inspiration, innovation, wishes.. It’s dark. It;s a maelstrom of intentions, the human spirit lives on, persists, meanders, lingers and almost festers: we have, we all have dark sides. The Dark (Dark One?) is always struggling to express itself.

The metaverse is a vast, infinite empty canvas, a living manifestation of its denizens. There must be balance, there must be equilibrium, and we’re not there yet. I draw examples in real life: the world was less dangerous a few hundred years ago. We just entered a ;dangerous phase’ of de-globalisation. We are living through times where thoughts could really kill. Let’s talk about extremes. Besides the obvious(identification or the lack thereof and lawlessness - hey libertarians), what stops warring (hot-wars) nations from interacting and socialising in the Metaverse? Why not just enslave an entire nation mentally, and cut the loss of ‘real’ human life in combat? Another movie Maverick - Tom Cruise. He really is a dying breed of Top Guns; the Obama administration issued hundreds of drone strikes. We all know how robots and AI will help us do the ‘dangerous’ stuff.. but what about the (un)ethical stuff? This is a rabbit-hole du jour. We quickly see this is, whilst a once in a lifetime tech, also something we need to tread really carefully.

Every intention, meta or not, is physicalised IRL, it’s effects felt are magnified a thousand fold as it ricochets through our fabric of reality. What’s real? What’s not? It’s all blurring. And how much of our times would we be spending in the metaverse? It’s hard to fathom (now), but the first cyborgs will incite a new arms race; fictitiously for now, but Neuralink helps those who can’t start walking, then allows the symbion access to new power, eg. synthesis of new value creation methods. Imagine the 1st few super-meta-humans. They express, later impose their wills, intentions more efficaciously in the metaverse, or shall we say, their influence becomes near infinite. They literally are omniscience, everywhere at the same time. Life in the ‘verse, well, becomes life itself. Definitely what they (these meta-humans) can imagine becomes real for the rest (who aren’t!).?

An embedded chip, implant is a ‘small’ price to pay for economic gain. You might play games faster. You might solve puzzles better. You might be able to take on more work, and heck, play simultaneously. In the movie Lucy with Scarlett Johansson – she gets to use 100% of her brain. Well this is kinda freakishly analogous to that..

Perhaps the Wachowski brothers in 1999 said it best through Neo. They certainly saw what’s coming!?Ive not seen a better “..Walk the Future back” session on Innovation x Design. Ever. 2022 - 1999 = that’s 23 years ahead of their time. Kudos you two for bringing us the Matrix Revolutions more recently.

But if everyone is meta/super- nobody is (so said Syndrome - Mr Incredibles original fanboi - in the Incredibles). Meaning, the playing field will be levelled. As tides rise, so doth the ship. Future of Humanity is unbridled this way. It might not be such a a Utopian world after all. After all the space exploration albeit in the Quantum Realm (ie in our own heads!), could see us ascending; becoming energy-light beings of pure energy – who knows??I recall that type of content being on my YouTube recommendation list – it’s somewhat a Level-7 type civilisation, if memory serves. Maybe we do get to shed the shackles of our physicality and become a truly sentient species after all.

The value creation cycle hastens exponentially with the advancement of humanity. It is true that our children are smarter than we are; as much as our forefathers are physically fitter. The Metaverse may be a wormhole into our alternate realities. But unlike the wormhole in the movie Interstellar placed possibly by an advanced civilisation for humans to escape certain death, we are (still..) on our own. The journey continues and we will need to understand - to ReImagine and ReInvent - what’s possible. Think of it as terraforming our potential futures. The Digital Twins that nations, cities, industry and sectors attempt to harness - what’s to say we aren’t in one ourselves!? We could [[already, ALREADY]] be in the Matrix, living a ‘life’ having our sense of reality warped since genesis - well not since, bcos we would all be clones (Morning, Afternoon, Evening as The Foundation puts it). Interesting, sci-fi stuff I know, but everything so far has been existentially, conjecturally possible - 100% in this lifetime.

?It’s already possible for us to live out memories of those who have passed. We’re attempting to live multiple lifetimes making our conscience/awareness persistent, imprinting our soul into binary truth. 10101110011011011010101010101010.. ad infinitum. We would have everything and all past x present x future henceforth implanted into the very fabric of reality. This reality. This ‘verse. This time-line. The possibilities are endless, hence I think of it as the First Singularity. The Metaverse is a perfect storm, it’s akin to a value creation supercycle; where our purpose, intent and wills are realised at the speed of thought. To me, that’s faster than the speed of light. But more importantly, realities bend. Time slows down. Everything, everyone gets sucked in. Eventually.

I know it’s early days: we’re still talking about how Zuck and his verse looks- the heinous BigTech attempting a take over of what’s sacrosanct. Taking over our freedom. Libertarian views, the dawn of a new monies, the future of finance and DAOs and all that riling up our curiosity, stoking our fires. Raoul Pal called this the exponential age. Exponential Age. I agree. The adoption “S” curves for the handphone, the Internet and now Crypto and the Metaverse all look very similar. But make no mistake it’s going to take a lot less time for us to get to 1B, 2B, and more adopters/users. In other words, using the Internet analogy; it will take exponentially less, a fraction of the time, to get from the dial-up 28/56k modem days to the gigabit fibre bandwidths we enjoy today. Yes, laugh at those clunky Oculus headsets now, get a Neuralink implant next, and we’re off to the races..

What’s apparent is that the Metaverse will reshape our lives. Let;s make sure its for the better!
