?? Report: Meta is developing an AI search tool
Meta is building an AI-powered search tool aimed at decreasing its reliance on Google and Bing, according to The Information.
Currently, Meta retrieves information from Google and Bing for its ‘Meta AI’ chatbot which provides conversational answers and can be accessed via WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook.
The report, citing a source involved with the strategy, said Meta will use its own web crawlers to provide real-time answers for current events.
The end game for Meta isn’t clear but a full-blown search engine seems unlikely. Perhaps more likely is that by attracting more user searches, Meta could generate high-quality data to enhance its AI models and ad targeting capabilities.
