Meta’s new rules are NO rules

Meta’s new rules are NO rules

Good day to y'all! And welcome to yet another episode of TTS' quote unquote Happiness Week. This time it's about Big Tech is having its “I’m not like the other girls” moment. They are heading straight into a no holds barred, unholy reality where “guardrails” are for losers, and consequences are just the PR problem of tomorrow.

Captain Zuckbeard, in his infinite wisdom (or whatever’s left of it) decided that “fact-checking” was just too much effort for a company swimming in billions. So this giant Disneyland of misinformation, has officially given up pretending to care about truth?

The new rules are….

No rules!

Lies, hate speech, and conspiracy theories can now flow free like a toilet that is finally unclogged. Darth Zuckerborg says it’s about "reducing censorship", and “going with the flow of a new political climate” (read: sucking up to El Trumpo).

But let’s be real… this has got nothing to do with free speech and a lot about making the internet a full-contact sport. If you thought Facebook was a cesspool before, well, engage your gluteus maximus, because this shit’s about to get biblical.

A true Zuckerpocalypse.

These are the series of reforms

The move that Meta made isn’t Zucknado’s own brainfart. It is a love letter to the right’s crusade against “censorship”. By gutting moderation, Meta is rolling out the red carpet for chaos, just in time for Trump’s triumphant return to the White House on the 25th. It has nothing to do with free speech and more about bowing to power. He just wants to make sure that Meta stays the megaphone for whatever madness dominates the headlines of today.

Meta’s reforms are:

  • Meta announced it was time for Facebook and Instagram to end "too much censorship", focus on "making fewer mistakes" in content removal, and "tune our content filters" to allow more material through.
  • Meta plans to replace its fact-checking program and reintroduce more political content, easing restrictions on (what previously were considered) “sensitive topics”, what Zuck the Almighty now describes as "out of touch with mainstream discourse". That includes of course immigration and gender.
  • The company will adjust its filters to focus solely on illegal and "high severity" violations, such as terrorism, child sexual exploitation, drugs, fraud, and scams, according to a release on Tuesday.
  • Lord Zuckleton also said that Meta's U.S. content review team will relocate to Texas from California, because the move will help the organization to "build trust to do this work in places where there is less concern about the (leftist) bias of our teams".
  • "We're going to catch less bad stuff", is what count Zuckula said, and we'll also reduce the number of innocent people's posts and accounts that we accidentally take down".

So what the hypocrite, The Great Zuckini, is really saying, without even twitching that lifeless facade of his, is that Meta is sick of playing hall monitor for the internet. And let’s be honest, he is just swaying with every political breeze, like the world's richest windsock. And today, that breeze just happens to be blowing from the right, and Meta is just going along, and pretending that it’s all about “free expression”.

My ass.

What comes instead

Well, instead of them fact-checking us all (read: outsourcing it to slave labor in the Philippines), the company is now opting for a "hands-off" system. It basically means that they let the community do the dirty work and Meta just sits back and collects ad dollars. I can only imagine what “community content moderation” is going to look like on Facebook.

In the end, it’s not about free expression.

C’mon.

Don’t take as for a fool.

Y’all are doing it to dodge accusations of bias, and to cozy up to the MAGA crowd, and you’re kinda hoping that the platform remains a playground for clicks, and cold hard cash.

When ZuckZilla says he’s ending “too much censorship” and wants to “tune our content filters,” what he really means is that policing misinformation and hate speech has become too much of a hassle. Why pay fact-checkers when you can shift the burden to users under the guise of “community notes”? Bonus points if this also wins over the right-wing base clamoring for fewer restrictions on their inflammatory hot issues.

Moving the content moderation team to Texas is another layer of performative nonsense.

The Zuckersaurus claims it will “build trust” and reduce bias, but it’s transparently a way to align Meta with the political winds of Trump’s America. Meta is bending over backwards to keep itself aligned with a growing wave of anti-regulation rhetoric. And don't think for a second this is about principles. It’s about profit and staying in the good graces of a Republican-led government.

Less moderation means more eyeballs, more controversy, and more engagement, because the truth doesn’t generate as much ad revenue as a good political brawl, or raunchy content (not porn though, that still won’t go).

Meta, OpenAI, Google, they all have decided that the wild west is the best place for their tech to grow up. Sure, there’s talk of regulations. Some senators even have their pitchforks out for Section 230, which is threatening to hold AI accountable for its digital diarrhea. But you know, Big Tech isn’t scared. What’s a few hundred million in fines when you’ve got money printers disguised as stock tickers?

Chump change.

Everyone kinda feels that the only thing that could slow this down is a disaster. Not just a little oopsie, but a full-on tech-pocalypse. Think AI accidentally creating World War III or crashing the global economy. A Three Mile Island moment, but with algorithms instead of nuclear meltdowns.

And yeah, that’s the level of mess it would take for the public to wake up and say, “Hey, maybe this ain’t so great”.

Oops I did it again!

Remember when Meta dropped its fact-checking network after 2016, when it ramped up moderation to avoid being blamed for spreading fake news. Now, it is shedding that responsibility again, like a snake looses its skin, but now they are pretending that this is about “mainstream discourse”.

The hypocrisy of it all….

What Zucky (the cousin of Chucky) won’t say outright, but screams between the lines, is that Meta is hedging its bets on “outrage as a business model”.

Think about it.

They can ditch oversight and cosey up to the MAGA crowd, and by so doing, the Zuckmeister isn’t protecting free speech, he’s making darn sure that Meta stays politically and financially untouchable.

It’s a strategy that is as cynical as it is dangerous, and they wrapped it in buzzwords like “free expression” to distract from the company’s complete abdication of responsibility.

Signing off from hypocrisy HQ where billionaires preach freedom,

Marco

True. They're calling it free expression when really it's about stirring up chaos to keep the clicks and the ad money rolling in.

This is a community note: You’ve got it all wrong, it’s about giving people a voice. Because that is what Meta is originally about. According to their CEO.
