Meta’s $10 Billion AI Data Center Hub: A Game-Changer for Louisiana

Meta , the parent company of Facebook , is set to build a $10 billion AI-focused data center campus in Richland Parish, Louisiana. Spanning 4 million square feet, this state-of-the-art facility will be Meta ’s largest data center globally and the most significant private investment in Louisiana’s history.

Scheduled to begin construction this month, the project is expected to transform northeast Louisiana, bringing 5,000 construction jobs at its peak and 500 permanent roles upon completion. The site will also include $200 million in infrastructure upgrades, such as roads and water systems, funded by Meta .

Powering the AI Boom

With AI rapidly expanding across industries, Meta’s new facility will support its platforms, including Facebook , Instagram , WhatsApp , and Threads . To ensure sustainable operations, Meta has partnered with Entergy - Louisiana Station to power the campus with 100% renewable energy. The company is also investing in water restoration initiatives to offset its environmental impact, a critical consideration given the water-intensive nature of AI data centers.

A Milestone for Louisiana’s Tech Sector

This project underscores Louisiana’s growing appeal as a hub for tech innovation. As Susan Bonnett Bourgeois , Secretary of Louisiana Economic Development , stated:

"This investment is just the beginning of our bold strategy to expand and diversify the tech sector, proving we’re ready to compete on the global stage."

The development marks a pivotal moment for Louisiana, showcasing its potential to attract large-scale tech investments and drive economic growth.

Why It Matters for CRE Professionals

This massive data center campus highlights the increasing demand for large industrial spaces capable of meeting high-tech infrastructure needs. As AI adoption accelerates, CRE professionals should look to markets like Louisiana for emerging opportunities in tech and data center development.
