Meta updates Privacy Policy to use your posts to train AI

1/5 Meta updates Privacy Policy to use your posts to train AI

You may have received an email or notification alerting you of Meta's updated privacy policy in relation to how Meta is expanding their use of AI. The policy states that any information shared on Meta’s platforms (such as posts, photos, and captions) is used to train AI models. Whilst there is a form offered to UK and EU users to opt out of this agreement, it is no easy feat convincing Meta of your desire for privacy. Many users have claimed that the process is deliberately awkward and tedious in order to deter users from objecting. Will you be opting out? Via Mashable?

2/5 TikTok is creating a US-only algorithm

A new report from Reuters has claimed that TikTok is in the midst of splitting its source code to create a new algorithm that is completely independent from Douyin. Supposedly, the work has been going on since 2023, and is part of TikTok’s bid to prove to U.S politicians that the U.S business is separate from its Chinese counterpart. The project could still take more than a year to finish, and if successful, would split the source code and cut TikTok off from the engineering development power of ByteDance. TikTok responded to the allegations on X, claiming that the story is false, and repeating their mantra that the divestment Act being pushed in the U.S is both commercially and technologically impossible. 3/5 Instagram adding Capcut-style 'Memes' feature to editing function

Instagram is in the midst of experimenting with a new way to participate in trending memes. Looking to harness the power of meme culture, the platform is hoping to get people posting more by making it easier to engage with memes in the app. The new ‘Memes’ feature, would allow users to add trending meme elements into their Reels and content. Through a rather CapCut looking dashboard, users can place animated memes over the top of their Reels. If Instagram is able to keep up with high-speed meme culture and provide users with an ever relevant array of meme options, the feature could be incredibly popular, as it would allow users to directly engage with memes within the app rather than having to exit it to create their own meme content. 4/5 TikTok seeks to promote more engagement with Snapchat-like DM Streaks?

In a bid to compel users to use TikTok daily, the app is releasing a new DM streaks feature. Currently in testing, the new update would allow users to quantify how many days they have messaged each other in the app; using the same idea as Streaks on Snapchat. Once users message each other on TikTok for three consecutive days, they will unlock a fire emoji and streak count placed next to their chat. The streak ends if both users do not message each other for 24 hours. It seems TikTok is attempting to cash in on the fact that many Snapchat users are demographically quite similar to its core audience. These users are notorious for their dedication to their DM streaks, with some having held their own for six years. That’s six years of visiting the app every single day; a level of engagement TikTok is keen to gain. Via Social Media Today?

5/5 Canva’s tech summit rap battle has users cringing?

Canva Create, a tech summit held in LA just last week, has left audiences hanging their heads in shame. The summit was held in honour of Canva with the intention of updating industry heads on company culture, next ventures, and brand building. Yet, after a perfectly normal day, the Canva team decided to end the proceedings with a Hamilton-esque rap battle. The performance, which saw a representative of Canva go head to head with an up-tight CIO, had less than the desired effect on audience members. Many immediately flocked to X to express their disdain for the display, citing it as messy and inauthentic. Via The Guardian?

Implementing capcuts to IG is a big move! Interesting to see how it develops and if it will stick like TikTok
