Instagram just rolled out a new feature, known as the Instagram Channel and it’s in beta/test mode for a few creators out there that has the potential to significantly impact the world of influencer marketing.

However for a marketer like me and you, our questions are basically

how can this be used to generate some relationship that leads to sale with the customer??

In the past, influencer marketing relied heavily on followers and content engagement rates, as well as the influencer's ability to create eye-catching and unique content that stands out in a crowded space.

However, with the new release of channels, there is now an additional layer of discovery that can benefit both the influencers and brands.

One potential advantage for influencers is that they can now expand their direct response reach to users who may not have previously discovered them.



What Is "Instagram Channels"?

The Instagram channels is essential a "message or text broadcast feature that allows creators and influencers to send a direct message to their followers and

So I assume that since instagram is calling it instagram channels and i only got invited to join mark Zuckerberg’s channel from the only instagram account I manage that I used to follow him, it will be more useful for content creators and influencers with a large amount of following.?

If you are aware of how telegram channels work, then you know only the channel admin, or the creator or the influencer has the ability to send messages into the channel, and instagram’s channel feature is essentially the same

The creator or influencer gets to send a direct message to everyone following them.

This can lead to increased followers or audience relationship and potentially greater income opportunities.



For brands, the new channels feature could potentially make it easier to find influencers that fit their specific niche.

Brands can now search for influencers based on the channels they post in, rather than solely relying on hashtags or follower counts. This could lead to more effective collaborations, as brands can find influencers who are already creating content that aligns with their brand values.

Possible Challenges To The Channels Feature

There is a catch.

Once the influence starts the channel, the followers only get a one time message notification to join or participate in the channel and naturally this might fly past a few followers

This also means as an influencer or a creator, you need to have existing deeper relationship with your audience for them to want to get direct messages from you.

There are also potential challenges with the new channels feature. With the increased competition for visibility within popular channels, it may be more difficult for influencers to stand out and gain traction within the direct response marketing section.

Also one-on-one conversations in the inbox may become overshadowed on instagram as many people often follow a lot of influencers and creators.

What are the likely advantages of the Instagram Channel Feature?

Well, I think the core advantage is the most obvious one, people follow an influencer to get a particular news or topic of interest or enjoy their content?

However, the creator’s content had to compete with other content on the Instagram channel.?

Many businesses and business owners have complained about Instagram reels generating so many views but no trackable actions and this looks like a way to generate actions directly from the followers on a page

Also, it appears Instagram is going to work on a way to pin the channels to profiles which means it will be easier to join in the long run for new followers or whenever a customer visits the influencer’s & brand's page respectively.

How Do The Followers Engage The Creators?

Apparently, since the followers are unable to text on the channel, they most likely will be allowed to react to messages with emojis, answer polls and probably click on outbound links.

And that means one thing, more conversion for the creator/influencer and more for their current brand partners.



How Is This Useful for businesses?

Well, I believe this means the usual brands and business adverts that always relied on the creativity of the influencer to build awareness?

And the existing problem that many brands still struggle with tracking the effects of influencer marketing can now meet in a middle ground?


if an influencer works with a brand, they can now broadcast a promotional message about the brand to their followers with undivided attention in their channels and that means they get likely conversions directly from these influencers
