Meta Advances AI, TikTok Challenges Instagram, Silicon Valley's Latest Obsession and More Tech Trends!

Welcome to the latest edition of Digiverse Mondays with Moon ?? for your roundup of the latest in AI, Tech, and Marketing - explained in simplest form!

Latest News in the world of AI:

Meta Releases Early Versions Of Its Llama 3 AI Model

  1. Meta Platforms just rolled out the early versions of its new AI, Llama 3, and a tool that updates images in real-time as you type. They're catching up to OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, and are integrating this tech across their big platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. They’re also launching a standalone website to compete directly with ChatGPT.
  2. To make the AI even smarter, also announced a partnership with Google to include its real-time search results in the assistant's responses. This adds to their existing partnership with Microsoft's Bing. The new features will also pop up in Meta's smart glasses and virtual reality gear, widening the ways you can use them.

?Adobe Adds Sora, Firefly AI, to Premiere

  1. The popular editing software is leveling up with some cool AI features. It's getting tools that can add or remove objects from your videos and even extend clips by adding more video at the start or end.
  2. There's also a new feature called Generative B-Roll from Sora on the way. These upgrades will start rolling out gradually starting next month.

Latest in the world of Marketing:

TikTok’s Instagram competitor, TikTok Notes, now has a live landing page?

  1. TikTok is stepping up its game with TikTok Notes, a new platform aimed at competing with Instagram, and it's just launched a live landing page.

2. Although there hasn't been an official launch announcement yet, it's already available for download in the Canadian Google Play and Apple App Stores.

3. Unlike its main app, which is all about short videos, TikTok Notes is designed for sharing photos. The layout is different from Instagram's, displaying multiple posts in a grid view. Users can tap on a post to see it full-screen and interact with comments.

Google is testing Short Videos in search menu bar

  1. Google Search is trying out a new Short Videos filter on mobile, which shows YouTube Shorts and TikTok videos in a two-column layout.
  2. These short videos are becoming a popular way to share information because they're engaging and visual, even though there are some concerns about their reliability.

3. Previously, Google grouped these short videos with other web links in search results under a general Videos filter. But now, thanks to SEO consultant Brodie Clark who noticed it, they've started testing this dedicated Short Videos filter for mobile users around the world.

4. This is part of several new filters they're rolling out, like Forums and UK-specific options for Products and Product Sites.

Latest in the world of Tech:

Third-party iPhone app store AltStore PAL is now live in Europe

  1. The third-party iOS app store, AltStore PAL, is now up and running in the European Union, all thanks to Apple meeting the requirements of the region's Digital Markets Act.
  2. Users need to pay an annual subscription of €1.50 (plus tax) to cover Apple's technology fee for using the app marketplace.

3. Setting up AltStore PAL can be a bit of a hassle—you have to navigate through multiple warning screens that Apple uses to make sure you really want to install apps from outside its own App Store. But if you stick with it and keep clicking, you'll get it installed.

?Airchat, new App by Naval Ravikant is Silicon Valley’s Latest Obsession

  1. Airchat is a fresh social media app that's all about talking. It's kind of like Twitter, where you can scroll through a feed of posts, but with a twist: you can listen to posts in the author's actual voice and tone.
  2. Unlike Clubhouse, which focuses on live audio, Airchat uses pre-recorded audio messages.

3. The brains behind the app include investor and AngelList founder Naval Ravikant, along with former Tinder product exec Brian Norgard.

4. Naval is big on the concept of social audio because he believes that hearing someone's voice is key to really connecting with them.

U.S.-China Internet War Intensifies as House Passes TikTok Ban

  1. On Saturday, the House passed a bill that could lead to either forcing the sale of TikTok or banning it outright. TikTok is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, and this move could make the ongoing internet rift between the U.S. and China even wider.
  2. The bill, which was part of a larger aid package for Israel and Ukraine, passed with a vote of 360-58. It gives ByteDance up to a year to find a buyer for the app, which is longer than the six-month timeline suggested in an earlier version of the bill.
  3. If ByteDance can’t find a buyer within that time, TikTok—which has 170 million users in the U.S.—would be banned.?
