Het filmprogramma werd geselecteerd door Henri Roquas, curator van de expositie ‘Maaltijd voor hongerkunstenaars. Beeldende kunstenaars op zoek naar de betekenis van leven en werk van Franz Kafka, 100 jaar na zijn dood’, tot 10 januari 2025 te bezichtigen in de soci?teit van Arti.

1. 'Nabokov on Kafka'. (1989) 28:23 Short movie based on Nabokov's lecture at Cornell University in the USA upon "Metamorphosis", Kafka's story about a man who wakes up to discover he has turned into a bug. Filmed by Peter Medak. With Christopher Plummer portraying Vladimir Nabokov.
2. 'Description of a Struggle'. (2020) 19:35 An adaptation of an early work by Franz Kafka – an evening walking around town with a stranger leads to a series of bizarre occurrences for "K".
3. 'La vis', AKA 'The Screw' or 'Court métrage' (1993). 15:63 (French movie inspired by Kafka). By Didier Flamand. Stars Jean Reno. La Vis is a short movie in which a man discovera that the screw he has bought cannot be screwed in. Furious, he decides to go back to the shop to get an explanation for this unfortunate incident. The actors are using an indescribable language.
4. 'The Trial'. Orson Welles. (1962) 1:58:00 The Trial is a 1962?drama film?written and directed by?Orson Welles, based on Kafka’s ‘Der Process’. The film begins with Welles narrating Kafka's parable "Before the Law" created by the artists?Alexandre Alexeieff?and?Claire Parker. The movie stars Anthony Perkins?st as Josef K. Also with Jeanne Moreau and Romy Schneider. Welles plays the Advocate, Josef K's lawyer and the principal antagonist. The Trial?has grown in reputation and is now considered a masterpiece. Welles himself said that it was the best film he ever made.

5. 'Brazil', (1985) 2:04:00 (movie inspired by Kafka). Brazil is a dystopian science-fiction black comedy film, directed by Terry Gilliam and written by Gilliam, Charles McKeown, and Tom Stoppard. The film stars Jonathan Pryce and features Robert De Niro, Michael Palin, Katherine Helmond, and Ian Holm.

1. 'Kafka's It's a wonderful life'. By Peter Capaldi, (1993). Oscar Winner 1995. 22:44 A British short comedy film written and directed by Peter Capaldi. It stars Richard E. Grant as Franz Kafka and co-stars Ken Stott. The title refers to the name of the writer Franz Kafka and the 1946 film It's a Wonderful Life, directed by Frank Capra, and the plot takes the concept of the two to absurd depths.
2. 'The Castle'. (2018). By Konstantin Seliverstov. 1:30:10 Based on Franz Kafka's Der Schloss. A certain K. appears in a snow-covered village as if out of nowhere. All the power in the village belongs to the mysterious Castle that strangers are barred from accessing. K. presents himself to the locals as the Land Surveyor "summoned by the Governor himself." But he is denied work and a place to stay. The only person that doesn't turn her back on him is barmaid Frieda, lover of the powerful official Klamm. K. seeks a meeting with Klamm thinking that is the only way to get something out of the soulless bureaucratic machine. But without realizing it, he soon begins to play by its rules, setting himself up for inevitable defeat. Works by artists Vladimir Gorokhov and Marina Busareva were featured in this film.
3. 'The Tenant'. (1976) 2:05:28 (movie inspired by Kafka) The Tenant (French: Le locataire) is a French psychological horror thriller film directed by Roman Polanski from a screenplay he co-wrote with Gérard Brach, based on the 1964 novel of the same name by Roland Topor. The film stars, among others, Isabelle Adjani and Shelley Winters.
4. 'Modern Times'. (1936). Charles Chaplin. 1:23:00 (movie inspired by Kafka). Modern Times is an American part-talkie comedy film produced, written and directed by Charlie Chaplin. In Chaplin's last performance as the iconic Little Tramp, his character struggles to survive in the modern, industrialized world.
