A Messy Middle

Each week as I attempt to lead my team forward, I do my best to center us in some sort of theme.
Last week it was?progress?and the importance of recognizing that the way forward is still happening, so long as we commit to persevering when things feel hardest and heaviest.
Even when we are in the messy middle of things.
And then last Wednesday, another massacre happened.
And I lost it.
I don’t have many words at a moment like this.
In a world where we are still fighting each and every day for the most?basic of human rights—the right to live safe and free.
In a world where the bodies of the most vulnerable and marginalized—Black and brown folks, women, trans and queer people, children, and the disabled—feel like they are under attack from all sides.
In a world where the political powers that be are too busy fighting each other to step up and do what so many of us know in our bones is right to put an end to so much senseless violence.
My only hope is that we are in the messy middle.
And that as hard as things feel right now, if we hold close to the people and values we love and believe in most, we can commit to marching forward, together.
That we will remember in these moments that we are all stronger and safer united than we are divided.
That despite our differences, none of us want to live through another moment like this.
Maybe, just maybe, that is what will lead to true progress.

I send love to all who suffer, who want to be heard, who feel lost to the point of anger and aggression. We feel your pain. wse are all one.
