It is not the Messenger but the Message that is important! Select Media wisely for Greatest Impact!
When I was invited to be a guest on Keith Sherley’s afternoon radio talk show I was excited and humbled, as he is such an icon and celebrity in our area. He also has thousands of listeners and I was thankful to utilize his media outlet to get my message out!
After the show I had made the comment that now I would need to blog about the experience for even greater audience appeal. I am convinced that there would be some overlap as young people today prefer their media to come through their mobile channels.
Thankfully there was an app for WNWS-FM 101.5!
I was in attendance to witness the launch of SWTN Reconnect last week at the local Chamber of Commerce with Governor Bill Haslam personally making the announcement! The following Monday I had the opportunity to shake the hand of both past and present presidents of Union University following a lecture on campus. Later the same week I attended a Mentor breakfast at the Community college I graduated from in 2005. A lot has changed since I graduated in 2005 and there is more help available on campus to assist in making the transition to post-secondary education much easier today than ever before. I am very proud to have been a small part of what tnAchieves has accomplished since I first volunteered to be a mentor in 2014.
According to local legislators that reported on state government happenings during a session of Capitol Talk at the Jackson Chamber, the governor’s Drive to 55 program is running ahead of schedule.
With all this good news flowing about one wonders why I am so concerned about getting my message out to both students and educators. I have spoken with too many students past and present to get too comfortable with the current trends.
I am all about supporting the success of these programs but these students need to be made aware of the challenges they will face as there is no substitute for hard work and dedication.
I was on a college campus today and spoke with students graduating in May that were still not sure what it was they wanted to do post-graduation. Graduation is not that far off and there are finals to be considered as requiring time and attention. Speaking from my own personal experience these decisions need to be made much sooner to be effective!
It is your future and it is too important not to take the time and due diligence necessary to do your very best to align yourself for success from your academic endeavors.
