A Message to Team Ora & My Network

Team –

A few weeks ago, I shared with you our just cause, “to live in a fully sighted world.” In order to achieve this, we at Ora foster an inclusive environment that allows each and every team member to bring their best self to work every day. We know we are stronger when our team reflects the diversity of the patient populations we aim to serve. We must honor all who work and live among us with the respect and dignity they deserve.

I say this purposefully and with a hurting heart. Recent, unconscionable racist events in the U.S. remind us that the pursuit of equity remains a daunting challenge. Many of us are sad, angry, frustrated, overwhelmed, and confused. For some of you, these are new and unfathomable experiences. For others, they are an outrageous repeat of history. For so many of us, the events have been, and will continue to be, a springboard for discussions and emotions. I applaud your efforts to lead candid, thoughtful, and honest conversations. These will allow for greater understanding and real change. Please, though, be respectful. We all process such events differently. Be kind. That is all I ask.

In closing, some companies include equity as a corporate value. I expect this to be much more than a value at Ora. Equity must be part of our DNA. With equity at our core, we accept no less than the common good for all. It is our responsibility and our future. As such, I hope all of you will join me in continuing to speak out against racial injustice, confront conscious and unconscious bias, and lead courageous conversations so we can make a meaningful impact to ongoing diversity, inclusion, and the right to live in a just, safe world.
