The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday is an official day of service and celebrates the civil rights leader’s life and legacy. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Everyone can be great because everybody can serve."

There are numerous places in Fayette County where you can serve, including the Fayette County Animal RescueFayette Cares, and the Carl Perkins Center. If you are able to volunteer your time to serve others, visit the Corporation for National Community Service or United Way to search for opportunities near you. In addition, other virtual and in-person Mid-South area opportunities can be found here: https://volunteermemphis.org/mlk-days-of-service/

Please enjoy Monday safely with your family.

Wear your mask.

Practice social distancing.

Frequently wash your hands for 20 seconds.

Stay healthy, stay safe,

Dr. Versie R. Hamlett
