Message from the Superintendent: October 25, 2024

Dear Fayette County Public Schools Families, Students, and Staff,? ?

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our County Commissioners for their invaluable partnership with our schools. I am grateful for their support and for joining us on our school tours. Thank you to Commissioners Betsy Rice, Mike Reeves, and Steve Laskoski for joining school board?Chairman Warner Speakman, Hal Rounds, and myself. We are proud of our schools and the strides they make daily. Your involvement makes a difference!

I am?proud to share the remarkable achievement of two Fayette-Ware Comprehensive High School Navy JROTC cadets. Cadet Petty Officer First Class Fernanda Ordonez and Cadet Ensign Ariana Gwynn received the prestigious Cadet Meritorious Achievement Ribbon—the highest NJROTC honor—for their life-saving actions during the Arkansas Cadet Leadership Course (ARCLC) on June 18, 2024.

Awakened by calls for help, they found a fellow cadet struggling to breathe. Cadet Ordonez managed the cadet's breathing, while Cadet Gwynn organized others to get help, alerting emergency services. Their quick, calm response exemplified leadership and teamwork.

On October 10, 2024, they were awarded the Meritorious Achievement Ribbon for their courage and composure. Their bravery brought honor to Fayette-Ware Comprehensive High School and our district.

Join us tonight, Friday, October 25, 2024, for Fayette-Ware’s Football Homecoming. Alumni Hour is from 5:30 - 6:30 PM with exciting performances from the FWCHS Drum Line and Wildcat Blue Thunder Cheer team. Refreshments will be served, and alumni are encouraged to wear their Wildcat spirit gear! After Alumni Hour, head to Wildcat Stadium for the big game as the Wildcats take on Mitchell High School. The Homecoming Court will be presented at 6:15 PM. The game will follow at 7:00 PM. Admission is $10.00 at the gate. Let us?make memories together and show our Wildcat pride!

Beginning in January 2025, Fayette County Public Schools will enforce our new school board policy of no cell phones in schools. Students will be?required to turn in their phones at the beginning of the school day and will retrieve them at the end of the school day. This change is intended to keep students focused and reduce distractions, supporting their academic success. Feel free to ask if you need more information about this new school board policy.

Parents and community members are invited to a Gifted Informational Meeting next Tuesday to learn about the district's gifted program. This session will cover the identification process, program goals, and guidance on completing referral forms, including the Tennessee Parent Information Form (TnPIF). The program is designed for high-performing students with exceptional intellectual abilities, creativity, and potential, requiring specialized instruction beyond general education. The meeting aims to make the process transparent and inclusive, ensuring every qualifying child has access to the support they need for optimal academic success. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend and engage in this valuable opportunity.

A healthy school promotes physical health by offering nutritious meals, daily physical activity, clean facilities, and health services while fostering emotional well-being through mental health resources, positive relationships, and social-emotional learning. Safety is bolstered with anti-bullying measures, clear safety protocols, and positive discipline. Inclusive education is supported by establishing equity, empowering student voices, and incorporating culturally responsive teaching. Engaging families and the community further strengthens student success, creating an environment where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Attending school every day is essential for success. Each day builds on the last and regular attendance leads to stronger learning and higher achievement. Being present matters—your future depends on it!

Dr. Versie R. Hamlett
