Fayette County Public Schools
Dear Fayette County Public Schools Families, Students, and Staff,? ?
I believe it is essential that we honor our veterans through meaningful programs in our schools. Veterans Day is a powerful opportunity to teach our students about the sacrifices made by those who have served our country, ensuring the freedoms we enjoy today. These programs are more than just a tradition—they offer our students a chance to connect with history, learn about the values of service and sacrifice, and express gratitude to the men and women who have dedicated themselves to protecting our nation. Participating in these observances helps foster a sense of respect, patriotism, and civic responsibility in our students. I am proud of how our schools come together to recognize our veterans. I firmly believe these experiences enrich our students' understanding and appreciation of the community and country they are a part of.
Recently our dedicated ESL teachers attended the TNTESOL Conference in Nashville, TN. We thank Galyna Kuzmina, Angela McNab, Catherine Chapman, Kristen West, and Judy Babb for their commitment and hard work in supporting our EL students. TN TESOL (Tennessee Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) provides valuable professional development, helping educators enhance their skills in teaching English learners by meeting them where they are.
Meeting our students where they are is essential because it acknowledges their unique language abilities and cultural backgrounds, allowing us to tailor our teaching strategies to meet their needs. By understanding and addressing these diverse starting points, our teachers can create more effective learning experiences that build confidence and ensure all students have the opportunity to succeed academically. This personalized approach is at the heart of our commitment to serving English learners and fostering an inclusive, supportive school environment.
Starting January 8, 2025, a new policy will ban cell phones and personal electronic devices in Fayette County Public Schools during the school day to enhance focus, reduce distractions, and create a better learning environment. By limiting phone use, the district seeks to improve student concentration, boost academic performance, and minimize classroom disruptions caused by notifications and social media. The policy also promotes social interaction, reduces the risk of cyberbullying, and helps support student mental health by providing a break from constant digital exposure. Additionally, this initiative encourages responsible technology use, fostering a safer, more respectful, and engaged school environment where students can thrive.
To encourage healthy eating habits in kids, start by being a role model—they will often mimic your choices, so focus on eating nutritious foods yourself. Keep healthy snacks like fruits, veggies, yogurt, and nuts easily accessible, and involve children in meal prep to get them excited about trying new foods. Make meals colorful and visually appealing with various fruits and vegetables, and practice portion control by using smaller plates and encouraging kids to eat until they’re satisfied, not stuffed. Limit sugary drinks, drink water or milk, and make healthy swaps like whole grains and lean proteins. Establish regular meal times and promote mindful eating by creating a screen-free, positive mealtime atmosphere. With consistency and positivity, you can help foster a strong foundation for lifelong healthy eating.
Attending school regularly is essential for academic growth and future success. Each day in the classroom is a chance to learn, develop strong habits, and stay on pace with lessons. Even missing a few days can create gaps in understanding, making it challenging to keep up. Consistent attendance not only boosts grades and confidence but also prepares students for the next steps in education and career paths. Remember, being present every day lays the groundwork for a successful future!
