Message from the Superintendent February 25, 2022

Dear Fayette County Public Schools Families, Students and Staff,

The mission of Fayette County Public Schools is “to inspire every student to reach their full potential.”?I am excited to brag on several of our students who have excelled in academics and athletics as they strive to reach their full potential.

I would like to?congratulate our Fayette-Ware boys and girls basketball teams for winning District Championships. These Wildcats are making history on their way to Regional Championship play. According to Athletic Director Coach Woodrow Lowe, “This is the first time in history that both the boys and the girls have won the district championships in the same year. Also, both teams dominated their district games by going undefeated and beating their opponents, on average, by over 30 points. Additionally, congratulations to JaSteven Walker for being the 1st ever Mr. Basketball Finalist.”?

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased?online at GoFan?or at the door.?I would like to encourage each of you to support our Wildcats during their quest for a Regional Championship by attending the games and cheering them on to victory!

In addition to athletic success, our students are succeeding academically. Our junior high Academic Pentathlon teams recently competed in their regional competition.?Our 7th grade team placed 1st in Tennessee and our 8th grade team placed 2nd in Tennessee.?The winning 7th grade team members are Kyle Bowde, Payton Edwards, Madison Green, Robert Jones, Colin Anderson, Skylar Holt, Kimberly Cruz, Isabel Nunez, and Sadie Doyle.?The runner-up 8th grade team members are Mackenzie German, Zy Greenwood, Karley Hicks, Ainsely Robertson, Sawyer Bartholomew, William King, Kassandrah Rivera, Bailey Koonce, and Jack Anderson. I want to thank Coach Sheila Cassady and librarians Jan Badovinac and Donna Calhoun for their work with our Academic Pentathlon students.?

On Tuesday, School Board member Mrs. Civil Miller-Watkins emceed the ALStar Virtual African American Youth Leadership Summit. I was proud to visit Fayette-Ware and watch as the students learned about different career paths, how to prepare for post-secondary education, and learn steps that need to be taken to make their present goals a future reality. I would like to thank Mrs. Miller-Watkins, ALStar and WestStar for bringing this wonderful event to our students.

Due to the flooding on county roads caused by the rain this week, we missed seeing all of our students in school on Thursday and Friday. However, Fayette County Public Schools is committed to the safety of our students and staff and we would rather err on the side of caution and keep our students, staff, and families safe from the dangerous road conditions caused by the flooding. The weather forecast is calling for additional rain, so please be safe and use extreme caution if you must drive on county roads this weekend. I am looking forward to seeing our students and staff back in school on Monday, February 28, 2022.
