A Message From Mr Miyagi

Everyone remembers the 80s classic film “The Karate Kid” right?
A true underdog story.
Our hero Daniel Larruso finds himself ripped from his hometown and placed in California because his mum has got a new job.
It’s like a different world to him
Nothing is familiar, he’s got no friends, and really he just wants to go home.
But then it gets worse
Pretty soon he finds himself on the wrong side of the local bullies and receives a series of brutal beatings
“The problem is I’m getting my ass kicked every other day” he confides in his new found mentor - Mr Miyagi
And thus begins the inspiring journey in which Mr Miyagi trains him in Karate, but more importantly in life.
Miyagi becomes his coach, his counsellor, his tutor and his friend.
Through a series of unorthodox lessons he teaches Daniel the ancient art of Karate and so much more, until the end where he finally overcomes the bad guys and gets the girl
And that’s where the franchise should have ended
But it didn’t.
There was a second film, which was ok, but the third? Well, generally, the less said the better.
BUT
There was one line in that film that always stood out to me =
You see this time around, there is a bigger badder bully who takes delight in knocking Daniel around.
And in the final scene he’s really going to town.
Not just handing out a physical beating but a mental one too =
Daniel turns desperately to Miyagi and says that he's too afraid to carry on, that he’s had enough and he wants to give up
But Miyagi replies:
“It’s ok to lose to your opponent, but you MUST NOT lose to fear”
Daniel continues to protest that he’s afraid, but Miyagi reminds him:
“You Stay focussed. Daniel san, your best Karate is still inside you, now it’s time to let it out!”
That single piece of dialogue went a long way to saving the film
Because it’s so true.
How often do we “lose to fear”? =
How often is our “Best ‘Karate’ still inside”?
Being a film, Daniel got up, let his best Karate out and won the day
But do we do that?
Or do we allow ourselves to be so cowed by fear that we never win.
I speak to so many men who are desperate to design their lives how they want them, but they let themselves be afraid.
- Afraid that it might go wrong
- Afraid of what people will say
- Afraid they don’t have what it takes.
But let me tell you
Your best life is inside of you. It’s time to let it out.
You see designing your perfect life DOES take courage
But courage isn’t the absence of fear.
Courage is knowing that there is something greater on the other side of fear and that fear is just an illusion.
Listen, in 300 hundred years time, there will be no trace of you whatsoever. In all likelihood it will be as if you never existed
You only get one go round.
So why let fear hold you back from at least trying to live life on your terms?
Why not have a go?
And discover what your life would be like if you:
- Let go of fear
- Worked less
- Enjoyed more time with your family
- Did the things you’ve always wanted to do
Like I said, it's all there for you just on the other side of fear
So comment "KARATE" below, or message me, and find out if I can help you just like Mr Miyagi helped Daniel....
