A message from CMP Group's CEO, John Mitchell
On Monday morning an announcement will be circulated to media announcing my retirement effective April 15, 2019. But before that happens, I want to take this opportunity to reach out personally, and extend my heartfelt thanks for your support and friendship over 31 tremendous years in the recreational boating industry.
I joined Canada Metal Ltd. in 1988 as the general manager of its Vancouver-area foundry – a small business with 13 employees and revenues in the $3 million range. It was there that we developed the unique alloys used in what became our Martyr anode line, and it was there that we developed the non-toxic Martyr II product that followed it in 1993. These products quickly became the backbone of Canada Metal’s business operations, and allowed us to develop distribution alliances all over the world and forge long-term OEM supply contracts with partners like Yamaha, Mercury Marine, Tohatsu, Suzuki, BRP, Volvo Penta US, Twin Disk, Parson and Hidea – partnerships that endure to this day.
We have been fortunate to work with many tremendous people during this time, allowing us to diversify our company’s footprint and acquire complementary businesses like Pacific Die Casting in 1993, Comprehensive Manufacturing Technologies in 1999, Seaguard Italanodi S.r.l in 2011 and Dock Edge in 2016. The long-term support of our partners and suppliers directly contributed to CMP making the bold decision to grow its manufacturing and logistics capabilities by establishing our wholly-owned Ningbo Jia Da Specialty Metals Ltd. manufacturing facility in Ningbo, China, and our CMP Global Ltd. manufacturing and logistics business in Norfolk, USA. Today, CMP operates as a $70 million company with five operating facilities in four different countries, which collectively employ more than 300 people.
It has been an exceptional journey, and I cannot begin to communicate my thanks to each and every one of my friends and customers in the recreational boating industry for their wonderful support and friendship over these past 31 years.
I would especially like to thank and recognize our talented and very capable senior management team, who have been instrumental in helping navigate our ship through both calm and choppy waters over the years. It is their diligence, knowledge and experience that has allowed CMP to reach its World Class objectives, and it will be their hands on the wheel as CMP moves forward to even greater destinations.
