A Message To All The Bosses Out There

It has been a good few weeks for closing deals here at PSRS! Included among $50,000,000 in recent closings is the above $26,000,000 portfolio of Medical Office Buildings in South Florida.

I’d also like to make a shout out to all the bosses out there...

I started in the commercial real estate finance industry in June, 2013. I was young, immature and not particularly hard working. Think about stereotypical millennial... yup that was me. I was the “loss leader” at my company — drawing a salary but not adding any real value to the firm. I’d generally stroll in a couple minutes late and do my best to sneak out a couple minutes early. Fridays in the office were often a struggle; who doesn’t have a beer or three while watching Thursday Night Football? Monday mornings were equally difficult; I think RedZone addiction might be a legitimate diagnosis!

Despite my initial failures as a full-time employee, my superiors continued to believe in me. They believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. They invested substantial financial resources in my growth. More importantly, they invested an even greater resource into my professional development. They invested their time.

Nearly 7 years in, I can confidently say that somewhere down the line I finally woke up. The concept of work simply being “a job” has evolved into something I now cherish — my career.

Thank you to my bosses. And thank you to all bosses everywhere who spend the time and energy necessary to develop the leaders of tomorrow. We might be a thorn in your side for a year or two (or in my case three), but once we inevitably wake up and recognize the opportunity afforded to us, your investment will reap dividends for years to come.
