Securing Your Perimeter: The Importance and Impact of LPS1175 Certified Security Fencing

Security fencing serves the purpose of safeguarding the enclosed area, keeping out unwanted elements such as people, vehicles, and animals, while also providing demarcation. While any perimeter fencing can contribute to security, security-grade fencing is specifically designed to make it difficult for intruders to breach the barrier.

Recent innovations in fencing standards have introduced accreditations and certifications, such as the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) and the LPS1175 certification standard, which focus on the physical security of intruder-resistant building components. The LPS1175 standard emphasizes the delay element in preventing forced entry attempts, evaluating a product's ability to withstand attacks from various threat levels. Rigorous testing is conducted to achieve LPS1175 certification, ensuring the fencing can withstand real-world attacks.

Once certified, the products are listed in the LPCB's 'RedBook Live' database and undergo periodic audits to maintain standards. Industries with security risks, such as construction and manufacturing, benefit from LPS1175-certified products, offering flexibility in choosing appropriate solutions. Certified fencing systems provide peace of mind, commercial advantages in insurance, guaranteed performance, and act as a strong deterrent to intruders.

Choosing the Right Surface Treatment for Your Perimeter Fencing: PVC or Powder Coating?

When it comes to maintaining perimeter fencing, selecting the appropriate surface treatment is crucial. The two main options for metal perimeter fencing are PVC coating and powder coating, each with its own advantages. PVC coating is cost-effective, pliable, and resistant to corrosion and harsh elements. It involves applying molten PVC onto the fencing surface and curing it to provide protection against weathering and UV radiation.

On the other hand, powder coating creates a thick and durable layer, offering excellent resistance to scratches and chips. It is customizable, environmentally friendly, and can last 15-30 years. While PVC coating is generally more durable and can handle extreme weather, it is more expensive and may not fully prevent rust. Ultimately, the choice depends on individual needs and preferences.

Martyn's Law and Its Implications for Perimeter Security Industry

Martyn's Law, also known as the Protect Duty, has been proposed to enhance security measures in public venues following the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017. The law aims to make it mandatory for venues to have a comprehensive security plan in place, with a focus on mitigating the risk of terrorist attacks and ensuring public safety. The law categorizes venues into standard and enhanced tiers based on their capacity, imposing additional requirements on high-capacity venues.

The perimeter security industry plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of enhanced security systems, such as improved perimeter fencing, CCTV, and crash-resistant bollards. While there are undeniable benefits to implementing Martyn's Law, challenges such as cost implications and time constraints must be addressed. Venue owners can proactively enhance their level of preparedness by considering robust perimeter safety solutions, including products like Gabions and 358 High-Security Mesh.
