Benefits and uses of 358 Mesh Fencing?

For highly secure locations, the specification of perimeter fencing is crucial for overall safety. 358 Mesh Fencing, is a heavy-duty mesh panel fence suitable for secure environments. It has a commercial-grade build with strong wire welded at junctions, offering superior protection against cutting and climbing. The fencing is highly compliant, meeting industry standards.

Benefits of 358 Mesh Fencing include excellent visibility, making it ideal for use with CCTV systems. It is anti-cut, anti-climb, durable, and low-maintenance, providing a long-lasting investment. Additionally, it uses less steel than comparable high-security systems, making it cost-effective.

Many 358 Mesh Fencing systems carry accreditation by the Loss Prevention Security Board (LPCB) and the NPSA predecessor, the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI), further ensuring their quality and effectiveness.

Gabions, the multi-use system

Gabions are versatile and eco-friendly structures made from wire-mesh baskets filled with stones or rocks, used for various purposes such as geotechnical applications, infrastructure development, and coastal erosion control. Their key features include:

  • Geotechnical Applications: Preventing erosion, stabilising slopes, retaining walls, and embankment protection.
  • Infrastructure Development: Suitable for bridge protection, road construction, drainage systems, and erosion control.
  • Wall Retention and Landscaping: Used for retaining walls, garden terracing, noise barriers, and aesthetics.
  • Coastal Erosion Control: Effective in seawall construction, beach stabilisation, and riverbank protection.
  • Vegetation Control and Environmental Applications: Ideal for erosion control, stream restoration, and wildlife habitat protection.
  • Construction Material: Provides stability and rigidity in construction projects with low maintenance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Flood Control and Water Management: Useful in flood protection, water flow regulation, and dam reinforcement.
  • Military Defence: Utilised for protective barriers, bunkers, and perimeter security due to their robustness and ease of construction.

Siddall & Hilton specialises in gabions, offering expertise in welded mesh and providing Galfan-coated gabion mesh panels for various project requirements.

Galfan Coating – A Quick Guide

Glfan coating is a zinc-aluminium alloy coating known for its superior corrosion resistance and formability in steel mesh. Comprising 95% zinc, 5% aluminium, and 0.05% mischmetal, it forms a metallic, mildly-cellular patterned surface with a micro-scale armour coating structure, boosting adherence. Some key benefits of Galfan coating include:

  • Enhanced Corrosion Protection: Outperforming traditional zinc coating, Galfan safeguards steel surfaces from corrosion, even in vulnerable areas like cutting edges and damaged spots.
  • Improved Weldability: Its thin and flexible coating allows for increased weldability, making it more versatile for various applications.
  • Self-Healing Properties: Galfan features a 'self-healing' oxide coating that requires minimal maintenance and exhibits strong ductility.
  • Environmentally Friendly and Cost-effective: Being eco-friendly and economically viable, Galfan proves to be a practical choice.
  • Reduced Cracking: In challenging conditions, Galfan can help reduce the occurrence of cracking.

SMART Motorway Retaining Wall Project

Aim: Constructing retaining Gabion walls to provide structural stability for a highway bridge while maintaining aesthetics. The challenge was to work on an active motorway with strict timing requirements.

Solution: Our skilled team collaborated closely with the customer to ensure on-time delivery. We used our EVG mesh welding machine to produce Galfan-coated gabion panels with excellent strength and corrosion resistance. Historical data helped optimise machine efficiency, minimising downtime. Regular communication with the customer and quality testing ensured the panels met requirements.

Result: The project was a success, achieving structural stability, safety, and aesthetics for the motorway. Our expertise and efficient machinery allowed us to complete large-scale operations accurately and effectively.
