MERLINs response to a Production Managers needs

I spoke to a senior Production Manager, who said, "My most significant need is to know if we are winning or losing for the day. By that, are we meeting the production requirements to get our orders out the door that our customers need? Our units completed, hour by hour, and velocity (units per hour) are my most significant data pieces. These are hard to break down below a line level, as our homegrown MES did not provide that data. I would have loved cycle time per station based on part configuration.

There was a project I worked on earlier related to predictive quality. Suppose we had data on the parameters associated with the manufacturing process (speeds, feeds., etc.) and correlated the interaction of that data with the quality inspection results. In that case, we could build a data model that predicts the inspection results based on the process parameters. I tried to get this going but did not see it to completion. Work smarter, not harder.?
