Merit or Loyality

Merit or Loyality

Over last few decades, most of the organisations are hiring, rewarding and promoting only those employees who prove to be loyal but the cynical part is; its their loyality to a seth, boss, an influential director that matters.Anyone who tries to stick to his work, merit, business alone is considered unsocial, rude, egoist or self centric. There are few high headed directors or general managers who apparently run the show. But intersestingly they work less & capture more. They may be visible in every photograph, activity or event offering a cake to their CEO or yet another influential director or general manager. But if you ask them to brief you of what good or value, they have added in the organization they will bring Miss Pretty or Mr Smart from their teams with a power point presentation fabricated with illusions, promises, hopes & history.Loyality should not be people centric. Loyality has to be with ones ownself in the first place & then with the organisation & the country. I am astonished for how long comapnies in Pakistan will operate through few influential directors or general managers. When will management systems & transparency take lead. If you do a forensic audit of any company to ascertain role of influential dierctors & general managers in desisting merit, you will all be shocked. For instance, one litmus test is the way management trainees or the fresh engineers are hired. Just try to conduct an audit by Mr. Sherlock Homes & you will get to know how many new hires are associated with the members of influential lobbys, often termed as loyalists. Yet another is the list of those rewarded or promoted.Merit is what they define. Loyality is what they believe. We have devised ways, means, procedures & PPTs to prove to the owners of the organisation what we say is right.Their are many unsung heroes who work for months & years in an organization with complete honesty, dedication & loyality to purpose but somehow get ignored, neglected or burried under the red carpet. Those loyal to lobbies spend more time in gossiping or watching over others like intelligence agents & still get recognitions & rewards. Its human nature, that we all like to be praised and appraised. And these people centric loyalists use this as a tool to survive, work & grow in an organization. If you ask a departmental head to give briefing every month on how did he contribute to performance excellence of his team he would need a day or two before he can prepare through someone else, you never know.Even during annual appraisals most of the influential dierctors & general managers ask their lieutenants to write about their achievements so they can collect all of them together & befool the management & the leaders it was theirs. In the end i must say merit is what is acceptable by everyone in the company, whole heartedly & it is even acknowledged by those who do not like us. Loyality has to be with the organisation & not even owners.

I think no one couldn’t have said this better then you and i can deeply understand and relate to the matter and more so because we’ve worked in a same organisation in the past. Well said Sir i hope that the point you raised here will reach out to those that need to hear this and upgrade their thinking
