Mr. Jacob A. Osae, an internationally acclaimed poet, screenwriter, and author celebrated for his works in sci-fi and fantasy, was the guest for the seventh episode of the Mentorship Sessions. His discussion centred on STEM, focusing on science fiction and fantasy.
While studying at Accra Academy, Mr Osae began writing as a hobby. Although his initial ambition was to follow in his father’s footsteps and become an engineer, particularly in Biomedical Engineering, he was instead placed in a Physics and Computer Science programme. This unexpected shift led him to a mentor who had a lasting impact on his life. Finding Computer Science challenging and unsatisfying, he eventually redirected his focus to Mathematics.
Mr. Osae mentioned how his parents' storytelling shaped his decision to become a writer. His physics teacher’s encouragement also motivated him to refine his craft. Passionate about writing, he transitioned to an English major to further develop his skills, noting that while he studied physics, he always felt destined to write.
