Mentorship builds culture and drives values.

Mentorship builds culture and drives values.

If you think about your legacy, what comes to mind? Simply put, how do you want to be remembered? It means putting a stamp on the future, and making a contribution to future generations.

Our company recently held their annual awards ceremony, as with most we take the time as a leadership team to recognise top performers and company achievements. We share this with our family, partners, significant others and with our extended social circles.

Why is this important? It’s in the stories that we leave our legacy and I want to share Jacques' story with you.

Jacques started at the Hereford Group in 2015, after a year he decided to leave and 6 months later rejoined the team. I asked Jacques why he left in the first place. His reply was that he had a poor experience with a previous FA - this was not the Hereford way.

Looking to our values as a business and through mentoring and guidance from our senior team, Jacques went on to write a large risk policy, which happened to lapse. Instead of letting this bring him down, he shifted his focus from the daily struggles and quick success to focusing on a career - one in which he changes the lives of his clients and also that of his family.

In his own words, “Hereford is a company that is built on serving others, this is one of the main reasons why I started mentoring. I felt compelled to give back what I had received. Not only in helping other FAs to better themselves, but to help them grow into who they are. To reach the potential that they might not be aware of.”

“I can honestly say that my journey at Hereford has changed my life. I experience a lot of growth, a lot of opportunity and I have the support of a strong team. I have a career that gives me fulfillment and joy”

Jacques is currently mentoring our Pretoria academy and managing the branch, even during a turbulent time, he is testament to what mentorship, leadership and living to your values can accomplish.

The purpose of a mentor is to help you excel in your career and become the best version of yourself. This may involve helping you achieve your goals, introducing you to new ways of thinking, challenging your limiting assumptions, teaching you life lessons, and much more.
