Mentorship in affiliate marketing industry
Mentorship is like finding your guitarist in a rock band: someone who not only teaches but shows you how to deliver real results. In a world where everything moves at lightning speed, it’s crucial to have someone who can help you navigate the chaos.
In affiliate marketing industry, it’s the same: finding your mentor is like getting a fast pass to the front row, where the show has already started, and you’re ready to play.
Today, we’ll tell you how Vova, our experienced media buyer, shared his knowledge with Ihor, who came from a different niche and had only basic skills in setting up targeted ads. Let’s dive into how Rockit band implemented mentorship and what results we got!
We mostly see two team development strategies: hiring newbies and training them to meet the needs of the business or hunting top specialists with specific experience. How did you decide that you were ready to mentor a newcomer?
Vova: Knowledge and successful cases are crucial. Otherwise, it’s impossible to grow a real media buyer. You can talk about serious results, only after you’ve gone through the journey from your first wasted budget to your first profitable campaigns. Successful cases are like a map that helps a newbie navigate the affiliate marketing world.
Ihor, tell us about the experience you had before joining Rockit and how you ended up in the band?
Ihor: I joined the team after a recommendation from my friends. Before that, I tried my luck with my own project, which was advertising for my Shopify store, but nothing came of it. So when I got the opportunity to join the team, I didn't think twice and decided to give it a try.
It was like a reboot: I changed my approach, found myself on a new wave, and started from scratch. This is how my immersion in performance marketing began.
Vova, what tips did you share for quick adaptation?
Vova: For quick adaptation, it’s important to teach how to analyze traffic and scale it effectively. The key is not to be afraid of trying new strategies and constantly testing. This allows you to integrate into the work and achieve good results quickly.
Ihor, what insights from Vova helped you get started?
Ihor: The main thing is the ability to explain everything clearly. Vova shared his experience as if he had just started yesterday. He had simple tips, but they were so precise that I caught on almost immediately. This really helped me avoid common mistakes. Vova guided me from the very beginning, and I’m very grateful for that.

What were the biggest challenges, and how did you overcome them?
Vova: The biggest challenges came from the technical nuances. But constant practice is the best solution to these problems. The more you work through them, the faster they get solved and they start to feel routine.
Ihor: There were no serious problems because Vova's involvement made the work easier. If something went wrong, he immediately explained what was going on. This gave me a feeling of support - like there's always someone behind me to catch me if I stumble. As a result, we navigated all the nuances together.
How did you measure progress?
Vova: Progress is shown by results: when the webmaster starts solving most problems on his own and delivers results, it means that the mentoring is working. Ihor quickly became independent and made a good profit, which is the best indicator.
Ihor: It's very simple: we measured progress by numbers, especially profit. As soon as the turnover started to grow, we realised that we were moving in the right direction. I also felt that I was starting to understand the processes better, making fewer mistakes and reacting more quickly to changes.
What advice would you give to those who are thinking about becoming a mentor or who are hesitant about bringing a "newcomer" into their ranks?
Vova: If you're a specialist in your field and you're "swimming like a fish in water" and you have stability, then it's worth sharing your knowledge. Every new person brings fresh ideas and enthusiasm, especially if you motivate them and give them a chance to realise their potential.
Ihor: Don't be afraid to start. Seriously, there's nothing scary about it. Be prepared that you will have a lot of questions and sometimes you won't have the answers right away. But that's OK. The important thing is to keep moving forward and not be afraid to ask for help. In the end, you will see results faster than you expected.
