Mentorship is a Calling, Not Just a Role
Mentoring in scaffolding goes far beyond technical advice or routine coaching. It’s a journey that requires commitment, empathy, and an unwavering focus on the mentee’s growth. For me, mentorship is not about juggling multiple roles but dedicating myself fully to understanding and guiding one individual at a time. I believe that only with this depth of focus can we truly provide the insights that lead to remarkable outcomes.
Being a mentor is like stepping into a form of counselling—one that thrives on communication. It’s not about delivering instructions from the top down but building a bridge of mutual respect and understanding. To be effective, you must listen with intent, learn about the unique individual in front of you, and adapt to their specific needs. This is where the magic happens.

Mentorship as a Foundation for Excellence in Scaffolding
In the scaffolding industry, mentorship holds a unique significance. It’s not just about teaching someone to assemble or disassemble a structure. It’s about instilling a stabilised mindset, that optimises the business with precision, and maximises the opportunity to grow. A good mentor doesn’t just create competent scaffolders, business owners, they nurture remarkable professionals who value quality, ethics, and continuous improvement.
One of the most rewarding aspects of mentoring is witnessing transformation. It’s seeing a mentee, once unsure of their footing, confidently navigate the complexities of the journey. It’s knowing that you’ve contributed not just to their skillset but to their character and career growth.

The Impact of Focused Mentorship
In my experience, mentorship isn’t a numbers game. Taking on too many mentees dilutes the impact you can have. To truly understand someone’s aspirations, challenges, and potential, you need to invest time and energy into a one-on-one relationship. It’s not always easy, but the rewards—both for the mentor and the mentee—are worth every effort.
When you mentor with focus and intention, you’re not just teaching someone how to do a job; you’re shaping the future of the industry. The mentees you invest in today become the mentors of tomorrow, creating a ripple effect of excellence that lifts everyone around them.

The Road to Being Remarkable

To be remarkable in scaffolding—or in any industry—isn’t just about mastering techniques or achieving business goals. It’s about the impact you leave behind. For mentors, this means creating a legacy of skilled, thoughtful, and empowered professionals who carry forward the values you’ve instilled.
So, if you’re considering mentorship or already guiding others, ask yourself:
? Are you taking the time to truly listen and adapt?
? Are you investing enough in understanding your mentee’s individual needs?
? Are you helping them not just to succeed but to excel and lead?
In scaffolding, as in life, the road to being remarkable is paved with the intention to uplift others. And as mentors, we have the privilege and responsibility of being the guiding force on that journey.
Closing Thought:
Great scaffolding supports remarkable structures and people. Great mentoring supports remarkable lives. Which will you help build today for a better tomorrow.

2 个月I would like to think that during my years within the industry I have mentored where I could. I would say that at least half a dozen lads I worked with along the way turned out to be great Scaffs. Once I moved from erecting into design I always felt the need to go one step further and explain the ‘what’s and the why’s’. Why are these braces fitted like this? What are the possible consequences if this standard is heavily loaded but then has sheeting fitted? Also at every opportunity to take onboard the thoughts of others, because a better solution can be right in front of you, but you can’t see it, these ideas can come from any person at any level. Mentoring plays a pivotal role in the transition of years of knowledge passed down through generations, it must continue if the industry is to grow and improve. Bring on the CISRS Mentor card!
