On Mentoring
“Learning is finding out what you already know.?Doing is demonstrating that you know it.?Teaching is reminding others that they know just as well as you.?You are all learners, doers, teachers.”
"Illusions" by Richard Bach
I have been lucky in finding mentors along my journey and one of my primary goals has been to pay it forward. I'm grateful for people in my life who took an interest in me and helped me find my way - both as a technologist and a person.
The best mentors have taught me "how to fish" and their lessons have become an integral part of my thought process. I've made my own faltering progress towards becoming a good mentor... but, like many things in life worth doing, it is still a work in progress.
I've decided to pen down my experiences both as a mentee and a mentor, in the hopes that it unlocks someone else's journey as either or both.
Over the series of these short notes, I'll document some lessons I learned as well as some interesting anecdotes from my journey - moments of joy, challenges faced and "war stories".
Look forward to embarking on this together.
