Mentoring Matters

I firmly believe everyone needs guidance from the cradle to the grave. Yes, someone who believes in you and inspires you to believe in yourself. Someone to hold you responsible and someone on whom you can depend for guidance and support in those crucial periods of life. Someone who helps you to discover the best in yourself and to be aware of the pitfalls that might befall you. Like a sounding board, your mentor provides you with an opportunity to clarify your goals and ideas in the cut and thrust of brainstorming and goal setting. Also, the advantage of seeing an idea from a different angle or another’s perspective is a clear benefit of having a mentor. At times, an instructor may already possess knowledge of a situation that you may be unaccustomed to and therefore can bring to bear on the issue at hand. However, looking on from a distance provides your mentor with a vantage point to observe with a kind of objectivity which you might not be privy to by being too close to the situation.
