It was the year 2002 and I was in the grade 10th, results were just about to announce. A day before I was taken to the most intelligent known person in the town and asked. "what would you like to choose after the 10th?"
I had no clue, I had no idea. But I was advised to take up commerce and pursue CA as it is one the most reputed courses in the field of commerce.
I had no idea what I was getting into. No self-confidence, no self-esteem and not enough clarity to take a decision on my own. So I did what more than 90% of us had done during our individual time. Listen and follow.
Time passed by and I made choice after choice, which lead me to be in TCS leading a team of 30+ people and parallel started educating commerce students via coaching classes.
This was one of the most exciting phases of my journey. Here I was consciously and unconsciously working towards helping students take better career choices. I used to teach Economics and I remember talking more about Career Choices than the subject.
Not only students from 10th or 12th would come to see me and take advice but even college students who are about to enter the workforce would come to see me and ask about resumes, interviews and job searches.
It was then that I had a shock of life. Where I saw first-hand how students and graduates who pass their graduation and still do not have any clarity about their careers.
When I completed my 10th in 2002 I had a similar situation of confusion and no one to guide me.
In 2004 when I completed 12th I was in the same phase. No change.
In 2007 when I graduated it was a similar situation.
In 2012-2014 when I had my coaching centre the situation did not change a bit. Just similar.
This is a picture of my grown-up commerce institute where I consulted almost everyone for a better career choice and I could feel deep within something changed as I kept guiding them.
It was like more I consulted them more I got healed within.
It was the year 2015 It bothered me a lot deep within. I thought to myself there has to be something one should do about the entire situation. With respect to Career Choices, I took a diary and a pen and started towards Marine Drive. Sat there for a long time and wrote my 2016 goals.
One of such goals was to build an organization that can cater to Careers. During that time there was not much already done towards helping people with Career growth and career choices. I set a BHAG [Big Hairy Audacious Goal] to start my own venture of helping people with their Careers.
I had a lot of limiting beliefs that I had to fight myself deep within even before I began. I also had to figure out a way to learn about entrepreneurship managing different portfolios at the same time etc.
After a trial run of 8-10 months which involved learning and actions altogether. I finally launched myself as a Head Coach at JJ School of Employability. A complete organization which helps students and leaders bridge the Employability Gap.
