The Mentor Dynamic
"Today is your last day." That was all I heard last year when I was pulled into a meeting at a job and a company( Halliburton) I loved when my wife was almost six months pregnant. I could not see the reason at that time.
The well-known Greek Philosopher Aristotle believed that everything happens for a reason, always. And that every experience in your life, was designed to shape you and reform you into the ultimate and greatest version, that could ever imagine yourself to be. The only thing that prevents this is having the wisdom to see it.
I decided to go back to school and reform myself and today I know the reason, and that is the lesson that I learned which is called The MENTOR DYNAMIC, and I would like to share it with you.
Life is short, and your time for learning and creativity is limited. Without any guidance, you can waste valuable years trying to gain knowledge and practice from various sources. Instead, you must follow the example set by masters throughout the ages and find the proper mentor. The mentor-protege relationship is the most efficient and productive form of learning. The right mentor knows where to focus your attention and how to challenge you. Their knowledge and experience become yours. They provide immediate and realistic feedback on your work so that you can improve more rapidly. Choose the mentor who best fits your needs and connect to your Life's Task. Once you have internalized their knowledge, you must move on and never remain in their shadow. Your goal is always to surpass your mentors in mastery and brilliance. To learn requires a sense of humility. We must admit that there are people out there who know our field much more deeply than we do. Their superiority is not a function of natural talent or privilege, but rather of time and experience. Their authority in the field is not base on politics or trickery. It is very real.

8 年Well said Mani. I have always learned more when being a Mentor than when being a Mentee. The learning equation most certainly crosses the mean to the benefit of all who are truly engaged in the process.
Could not agree more. I meet several times a week with the man who created a startup I went to work for over 40 years ago. He is my friend, my mentor and my teacher. I've worked through the changes that are happening in the industry because he's taught me to think differently. Look for a mentor no matter your age and learn from them. Then do the same for someone else, an employee, a student or intern, a business colleague or just a friend.
Very well spoken. Mani you get it!
