In 2020, when the pandemic struck and the world came to a standstill longer than we all anticipated, I attended online webinars about dealing with uncertainty organized by MIT. I distinctly remember one of the speakers stating that we were facing not just a physical health pandemic, but soon enough we would experience a mental health pandemic. This prediction appears true when we look at the statistics. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that "In the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global prevalence of anxiety and depression increased by a massive 25%."
Mental, physical, emotional, financial, etc., well-being is part of our health, yet very often, only financial well-being is considered. I recently heard in a podcast that if you ask a startup founder about last year's revenue, she will instantly tell you the number, but if you ask her what her average blood sugar level or blood pressure was, she would have no idea.
Striking and true. I myself went through a deep and prolonged health crisis some time ago, and what helped me the most was adopting a holistic perspective -diving deeper into the causes of the illness, not just putting a band-aid on a cut. And just to make it clear - I took me a few long and painful months to come to this conclusion.
And I mention this because too often, I see people merely applying a band-aid to their physical or mental wounds without addressing the root causes of their struggles. I wish I had known this sooner; it would have spared me months in bed and many other disruptions during that time. But the good news is, I'm not going to bore you today with my past health issues. I am extremely grateful that they are in the past.
Every day tastes like a blessing when you realize how fragile life itself is.
Another part of the discussion should be how much people suffering from various illnesses are being isolated, misunderstood, and left behind. We hardly discuss issues like mental and physical loneliness, or financial troubles.
When I learned about Mariya Koteva , her story of illness and healing, and her power to transform it to help others on their healing journey using scientifically-backed methods, I couldn't help but interview her. Her personal journey through health challenges ignited her passion for unlocking the potential of the human body and brain, inspiring her to guide others on their paths to improved health.
Mariya's work is underpinned by a strong belief in the transformative power of understanding and aligning with the physiological and psychological systems of the body. Through her holistic and scientifically-backed approaches, she helps individuals navigate the complexities of modern life and achieve their full potential.
So here you are , enjoy it.
