Mental Wellness Month: 5 Ways to Enhance Your Quality of Life

Mental health IS health and that’s especially true as we celebrate Mental Wellness Month. January begins the new year, which is a great time to focus on yourself and your overall wellness. Mental wellness is affected by many things that occur in your day-to-day life. For example, if you’re having financial stress, it can negatively affect your mental wellness. Here are a few different areas of wellness and how to take steps toward enhancing your quality of life.??

  1. Physical – Consider doing more physical activity to better your physical wellness. For example, take the stairs if you normally take the elevator or take a 5-minute walk. Any amount of exercise helps, take it easy and do what’s best for you.??

  1. Social – With food delivery services at our fingertips, easy accessibility to online shopping, and the ability to stay connected to everyone around you through social media, it’s normal to want to spend time at home. Consider asking a friend to get lunch or go for a walk – a little bit of social activity can be good for your overall mental wellness.??

  1. Professional – If you’re having a stressful week at work with several different tasks on your agenda, consider setting a timer for each task. For example, work on one assignment for an hour, set an alarm, once the alarm goes off, begin working on another task. Remember to take small breaks in between so you don’t experience burnout.??

  1. Personal – Self-care plays into mental wellness. Consider doing things that make you feel good about yourself. For example, take a warm bath and put on a face mask, if that’s something you enjoy.??

  1. Emotions – It’s normal to experience several different emotions throughout the day. Allow yourself to feel the way you need to feel, but if you’re experiencing a negative emotion, consider putting together a plan to help you get out of that mindset and regulate your emotions.??

As we ring in the new year and begin Mental Wellness Month, think of the different factors that play into your mental wellness and the different steps you can take to better your overall mindset. Consider partaking in more physical activity, grabbing lunch with a friend, setting a schedule for work assignments, taking a warm bath and putting on a face mask, and learning how to regulate your emotions. Remember that taking these steps toward bettering your mental wellness may even better your overall quality of life.??
