Mental Wellbeing

MENTAL HEALTH IS OFTEN DISREGARDED AND CONSIDERED AS TOO TABOO TO BE DISCUSSED. THE NATURE OF MY PROFESSION HAS LED ME TO ENGAGE WITH MANY PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT WALKS OF LIFE.

Some are content and going about their life, some are running the rat race of 9-5 in a cubicle, and some consider living their lives in a miserable way. This group of people has a lot of things to say but very few who will lend ears to them. These individuals are the people with mental health issues, who come to me during my training sessions and vent about their life, workplace, family, health and many more. Not only working professionals, but also many people are living on the edge, unsure of where they are headed. Most of these issues are directly or indirectly related to mental health, and it's high time to address them. Here's why:

MAINTAINING MENTAL HEALTH IS AS CRUCIAL AS REMAINING PHYSICALLY FIT

If you have a tumour in your body, will you be at peace and living your life with it? May be no, but when it comes to mental health, we do not even consider diagnosing the issue, let alone treating it. As we do not fathom the impact mental health has on our life, we tend to overlook the significance of it. Untreated mental health issues leave a long-lasting dent in our life, and if it goes out of control, the damages may be untreatable.

THERE IS NO AGE OF IT

Like many health conditions, mental health is not bounded by the limit of age. A child, as well as a veteran of 55 years and above, can also be a victim of mental health issues. Thus we need to be aware of the fact that no one is safe from this tragedy, and it can happen to anyone at any time for various reasons. So if we see a teenager is acting differently or a housewife behaving in a remorseful way, we should lend our ears and shoulder to them. Hear them out, understand them and be with them. We all are fighting our own battles.

MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES SHOULD BE DIAGNOSED, TREATED AND TALKED ABOUT. FRIENDS, FAMILY AND WELL-WISHERS SHOULD UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING SUPPORTIVE OF THOSE WHO NEED IT. LET US ALL UNITE TO BATTLE MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

IT DESTROYS LIVES

Unresolved mental health issues have a long-lasting effect on the victim as well as the people around them. For some, the experience is overwhelming enough to make take life-ending decisions. It not only destroys one life but people connected to it get grimly affected by it as well. The longer we take to address the issue, the dangerous it gets. So if you think you need help, it is absolutely okay to look for professional advice. It is okay to take your friends and family to get professional help if need be. It is no longer a taboo or luxury. It is a necessity.

LIGHT AT THE END OF A TUNNEL

The audacity of hope has its glamour. In the face of adversity, faith keeps us strong. No matter how complicated, severe and overwhelming a mental health issue is, there is and always will be a way out. It can be minimized and mitigated for the betterment of human life. Through raising awareness, we can battle it, by being there for someone else we can tackle it, and by holding the hand of the people who need us, we can save them. Let us all be the light at the end of their tunnel.

Mental health issues should be diagnosed, treated and talked about. Friends, family and well-wishers should understand the importance of being supportive of those who need it. Let us all unite to battle mental health issues.

Organizations can support mental wellbeing by fostering a culture of psychological safety and providing resources like Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) or in-house counselors. According to Hacking HR, employees who feel valued by leadership report higher psychological safety and are more likely to recommend their workplace.
