“Mental illnesses are a thing. They’re real, and they are very present. And we need to talk about them” – Jack Harries
Mental health is such a trendy topic in today’s healthcare scenario. With the growing complexity of our lives, it’s a struggle to get healthy mental health. A large percentage of the world’s population is suffering from stress, depression and anxiety disorders. Every day people are dying, and the number is increasing as never before. So, it’s time for us to be serious about it. Often people don’t really realize that they are in depression or stress and as a result, they don’t really feel the requirement of the treatment. In my consideration, mental illness is more harmful than the physical one because Physical illness can be controllable by the strength of mind but if the mind itself is not well then nothing could be helpful.
As per a recent survey, it is estimated that 275 million people suffer from anxiety disorders. That’s around 4% of the global population. It can also be estimated that, by 2030, the cost to the global economy of all mental health problems could amount to $16 trillion. So, it’s one of the most important healthcare topics to focus on for the next few years for all the HealthTech companies.
Technology is such a contradiction in our lives that it can make us mentally sick and also it can help us in our mental sickness. Amazon’s greatest invention Alexa is one of the examples which can help us in various ways to detect and prevent out mental illness. Alexa is such a great AI assistant who can understand someone’s mental condition by talking to them also help them in various ways to overcome the loneliness. There are some very good apps available which do a similar job. Other useful ways are internet-based support groups and telehealth.
Most of the time, we really underestimate our mental health situation and as a result of that, the situation becomes worse. So, we need to be more careful about it and try to prevent it from the beginning.
