MENTAL ILLNESS DOESN’T MAKE YOU LESS*.
Mental illness doesn’t make all of us hugely talented, but nor does it make us weak. Fact is, mental illness doesn’t make us less, it makes us more.
It takes toughness, not weakness to fight depression. Dragging yourself from bed every day in the belief that the clouds will eventually clear, takes guts.
It takes integrity to apologise for times when you have shown none.
It takes strength of character to blame yourself, not your illness, for hurting those you love.
It takes perseverance to struggle with drugs that make you fat, giddy, sleepy or numb, to eventually find those that work.
It takes insight to understand that for some of us, we will never be ‘normal’.
It takes raw courage to stand your ground when anxiety is telling you to run.
It takes wisdom to know you need help. And humility to accept it.
Mental illness may make you many things, but it will never make you less.
*My apologies if you have read this post before, but the fog is in and the insights are not flowing freely. That said, I personally believe it’s an important message for any of us who suffer.

4 年Thank you for this. Self esteem is something that I really struggle with, I’ve said ‘Yes’ to so many things, that if I believed in myself, and admitted my limitations (wrt energy) I’d have said ‘no’ to. Struggling to deliver whatever I’d said yes to, only compounds my issue.
