Hey folks,
I wanted to take a minute to share something close to my heart. It’s a topic that's been part of my journey and has influenced a massive change in my life: the relationship between mental health and alcohol. Now, before you think I'm about to play the role of the preachy mate at the pub, hold on! This is more about sharing my experience, a bit of what I've learnt, and some cracking zero-alcohol recommendations that have kept my tastebuds satisfied.
First, a little flashback. It’s been over three years since I last raised a glass with any alcoholic content. Yep, you read that right! Not a single drop in all this time. But why, you ask? For me, it boiled down to one fundamental thing: emotional wellbeing. I noticed that every time I reached for a drink, it not only impacted my mental state but it blurred my decisions. I craved clarity, control, and an authentic connection with my emotions, without the haze of alcohol muddying the waters.?
What’s more, as I stepped away from alcohol, I found myself developing healthier coping mechanisms. Instead of reaching for a drink after a stressful day, I looked for other outlets, be it a walk, a swim, a run, or sometimes just a session of loud country music in my ears! The beauty of it? The next morning was always blissfully hangover-free. Waking up with a clear head and a sense of accomplishment became my new high.
Now, for those of you pondering the idea of cutting down or quitting, I understand that the prospect of not having your favourite drink might be a tad daunting. But guess what? The world of 0.0% and 0.5% beverages is vast and delightful. I've made it my personal mission to test out every option I could find, and some have truly hit the spot. For my cider lovers, Cornish Rattler is a must-try. Old Speckled Hen offers a beer that’ll give its alcoholic counterparts a run for their money. For the IPA fans, Brewdog Punk is a revelation. And if lager's more your thing, Peroni Nastro Azzurro won't let you down.
For some, choosing to drink alcohol-free beverages can be tied to deeper reasons, including battles with addiction. It's essential to recognise and respect that. For me, the "Zero Life" isn't just about abstinence; it's about still being able to feel the chill of a cold beer on a hot day, without the after-effects.?

So, are you on the 0.0% bandwagon or curious to give it a go? Do you have any favourites or recommendations? I'm always on the hunt for the next best thing. Share your thoughts, and let's make this journey one of mutual discovery and support.
Remember, whether you choose to drink or not, the key is to find what works for you and your mental health. To each their own. Here's to making choices that empower and uplift us.
Cheers to clarity and good vibes! ??

1 年I love this Nick Elston but I'm not a beer drinker - any recommendations for white wine / fizz "dupes"? The supermarket stuff just isn't hitting the spot!
