Mental health in the workplace is a huge topic, and there has been a huge emphasis placed on senior leadership to be able to identify, acknowledge and support those that are finding their life impacted by ill mental health.??
Quite rightly so.?
However, I have noticed that there is often a forgotten workplace demographic when it comes to support and the lack of. Individuals in senior leadership positions.??
Being in this position can often be incredibly lonely. You are shouldering the burden of running a department or entire business – the operational requirements, compliance concerns and the complexities that comes with working with and supporting people – who naturally come with a whole range of diverse support needs.??
The weight of that can quite honestly, be crippling. You are required to be honest – but not too honest. Transparent – but not too transparent. Your delivery needs to be spot on, every single time, because one of the key priorities is making sure your team feel safe.?
Often at the expense of their own mental health and support needs.???
Middle and senior management are human too and mental health support goes both ways.??
