Mental Health: practical strategies - trigger mapping & trouble-shooting [VIDEO]

In this video I explore a simple strategy for anyone struggling with anxiety, self-harm, depression or other issues that result in difficult thoughts, feelings or behaviours. I talk about why and how to keep a trigger journal and a couple of different ways of doing this before talking through what to do with the information we collect. We can use it both to help us avoid or better manage triggers, as well as using it to help us determine what works well and whether we can build on the more positive moments too. This will be useful to anyone who is either struggling with their emotional or mental health or anyone who is supporting someone in that situation. It's a practical and simple idea that can be implemented by teachers, parents, counsellors, youth workers etc. If you try it and find it helpful (or not!) please take a moment to leave a comment below. The sample journalling worksheet I cut away too was developed (by me) for Attendance Matters Magazine and is copyright or Forum Education - but you can easily create your own based on this to suit (or buy a copy of Attendance Matters - this will be in the July issue where I've written two articles, one on school refusal, one on hospital schools). I hope you find this video helpful. Please take a moment to leave a comment about what you did and didn't like or sharing your own ideas or experiences. Please also to let me know what other topics you'd like me to tackle in future videos and subscribe to be kept up to date with new videos as they’re published.
