Mental Health first aid for the workplace by St John
1 in 6 New Zealand adults experience mental illness in their lifetime. Do you know how to respond?
Overview
Most people know how to respond when someone experiences a physical injury or illness, but many are unsure how to respond when someone is experiencing a mental health challenge.
The St John Mental Health First Aid course will provide the skills and knowledge to recognise and respond to individuals experiencing mental health concerns.
Mental disorders, as a group, are the third-leading cause of health loss for New Zealanders. Knowing how to help is important.
Course approach
Using a variety of best practice learning methods, including discussions, videos and scenario work, this course is ideal for anyone wanting more information to help recognise mental distress and what they can do to help.
Mental Health First Aid does not teach people to be therapists. It teaches how to recognise the symptoms of mental health problems, how to provide initial help and how to guide a person toward appropriate professional help.
Courses can be held at St John or your premises.

6 年We have a Mental Health First Aid course coming up at St John, 10 Harrison Road Mt Wellington on the 8th August and the 30th August. If you'd like to book please email me at [email protected]. ??
I'm not 'a thing', but therapist, adviser, coach, artist, potter, and musician are some of the things I 'do'.
6 年Indeed I do know how to react :-) Actually one of my post-grad courses was mental health primary care. This is an area that most health professional are not up to speed with, let alone the public. An excellent initiative.?
Attended the St John MHFA course on Thurs and found it very useful. A well put together course that was delivered by a very competent and knowledgeable trainer (Darren). I will be recommending this course to my peers. Well done Darren (and Dorris). ??
