According to WHO, "Mental health refers to a state of well-being in which a person can realise their potential, cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively, and contribute to their community." It is one of the most discussed subjects of this generation. However, its importance pales in comparison. Brains and hearts are two of our bodies' most potent organs. Hence, it is important to comprehend whether they are in their best possible state or not. It's a scientifically proven fact that a healthy mind and body lead to happy lives.
When mental health is deteriorating, one fails to discern the reasons behind mood fluctuations. These problems have always existed, but we have only come to recognise their symptoms in the recent past. Even today, society mistakes these issues for sadness, sitting alone, and negligible interaction. while in reality, it can manifest as laughing, going out, and having an active social life. People with mental ailments are hesitant to seek treatment because of the taboo surrounding therapy. The most problematic part is when they try to approach a family or friend but their issues get disregarded. Sentences like "don't worry, it's just a phase", and "think about all the people who have it worse than you do" swiftly bury the issue. This reflects the lack of knowledge not only about mental health but basic human design understanding.
The relief is, that managing such an important aspect of our lives is very straightforward. Activities like exercising, eating healthy, sleeping well, and having fun can keep one away from stagnancy and boredom. Embracing emotions, expressing openly when things start to feel overwhelming and finding solace in things that you can immerse yourself in, will let your heart feel the joy and calmness in little things. Doing these simple things today will ensure that you don't feel like giving up on everything tomorrow.
So, let's help each other feel the warmth of humanity by being there for one another. It's not important what you say to someone, but how you listen as a good companion will definitely suffice!
