Mental Health in Business & Teams.

Mental Health in Business is something that should have been discussed or even spoken about as a priority for many businesses. Still, unfortunately, not that long ago, it was just swept away.

Keep in mind that your own mental health as an owner or leader is just as important as the wellness of your employees.

Among several of the characteristics of rapid growth and high job satisfaction, improved well-being of employees tops the list.

This may be an opportunity for your business rather than a challenge.

One in five Australians (21%) has taken time off work in the past 12 months because they felt stressed, anxious, depressed or mentally unhealthy.

This statistic is more than twice as high (46%) among those who consider their workplace mentally unhealthy.

Depression, anxiety, and disorders related to substance abuse and eating disorder (binge eating) are now the most common causes of disability.

Mental health is more than just your mental state of mind. It’s a state of physical health as well.

I share this information with you because you and/or your employees may be experiencing some stress and mental strain every now and then.

This is normal from time to time, but how are you managing this?

Do your employees have someone to reach out to?

Do you have a process to vent and get it off their chest?

Do you have a system or employee assistance program to help them cope?

Do you take a mental health day when you need to?

Do you reward yourself for your hard work and accomplishments?

Mental health, through these questions, plays a huge role in employee productivity and retention.

Granted, you want to retain talent, but there is something more important than talent that is within every employee.

Make employees feel comfortable with their well-being, and they will continue to excel at their craft.

So, what kind of data are you handing over to your employees?

How do they know how they’re doing?

What are you doing to support your employees to improve their professional skills & soft (interpersonal) skills?

Is the relationship you have with the employees genuine and honest?

What kind of an employer are you?

A boss? A teacher? A mentor? A friend?

It is a beautiful thing when you see your employees doing so many amazing things.

Mental Health in Business is a serious topic, but keep it in a positive atmosphere.

In any business, you will know what you will know as you go. It’s a process.

Communicate human-to-human,instead of role-to-role,and spend time getting to know each other.

Do something that makes another person feel valued and appreciated.

Acknowledge conflicts with curiosity rather than blame.

Approach conflict as a problem exploration process.

Be there to celebrate victories, big or small.

Don't hesitate to ask for help for yourself or your staff.
