Mental Health in Business 2020

Welcome to 2020!
For many, today will be the first working day of 2020. Others will have worked throughout. Some will have spent time planning and preparing for the New Year and perhaps setting some new year’s resolutions. I’ve taken some time off over the Christmas period, which is time that I really needed, after a pretty non-stop year in 2019; and I have been easing myself back in gently over the last couple of days.
I’ve been reflecting a bit on my intentions for 2020. I’m going to call them intentions, not resolutions.
This world we are living in – this era of technology, information, social media, visibility – there are so many ways for us to consume news and information, so many ways for us to communicate with our friends, and the world at large. I feel lucky to have access to everything that I do- to be able to work where I want; watch a movie on the tube; share photos from Christmas, in a Facebook photo album for my friends who I haven’t seen since school to have a nosey at. I also fear that this always-on, filtered, censored way of communicating and living, is a barrier to connection – and therefore to mental wellbeing.
Connection is a universal human need. We all are hard-wired to seek out connection. How can we build authentic, meaningful connections if we do not show up as our true selves - if we only show the world the bits that we want them to see?
Being seen, heard and accepted just as we are is what almost all of us long for – but how can any of us be truly accepted for who we are, if we do not allow ourselves to be vulnerable, if we do not share the downs as well as the ups?
So, my intentions for 2020 are to be vulnerable, to be courageous (necessary, because it is scary to be vulnerable) and to be kinder to myself – and to support and encourage my friends, my family, my colleagues and clients to do the same. These intentions are for me but also absolutely central to everything that we will be doing in our business in the coming year and beyond.
2019 was a fantastic year for Mental Health in Business and we are incredibly excited about the coming year. We will be announcing new partnerships, launching new products, growing our team and sharing lots and lots of new content.
I will be doing more speaking than ever before this year – I’m really looking forward to being able to share details of lots of events, in the coming weeks!
Thank you for all your support in 2019 and we wish you a happy, healthy and successful 2020!
With love xx
