Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week

Today marks the launch of Mental Health Awareness Week, the UK’s national week to raise awareness of mental health.

The week, which is hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, is in its 22nd year and runs from 9th to 15th May.

Mental health is something that is important to us at Princes. It is why we recently launched our own Mental Health Awareness Initiative as part of the company’s Health & Wellbeing Programme.

It is also something that is personal to Joe Dent, Chief People Officer for Princes, who has suffered from anxiety over the years.

Earlier this year, Joe made a video in which he talked about his anxiety, his coping mechanisms and the support he has received from fellow Board members as well as his colleagues.

In March, we announced the expansion of our Mental Health First Aider Programme after a successful trial at two of our canning sites.

The Programme is now being extended to all six of our other sites across the UK, including our head office in Liverpool, ahead of a planned international roll-out. We are delighted that a number of colleagues have volunteered to get involved.

We are taken the opportunity during Mental Health Awareness Week to create the time and space for us all to talk, listen and learn. And we have several events planned to do just that – from a cuppa and a catch up to the opportunity to join a live Q&A with Neil Waine from the men’s mental health charity Andy’s Man Club.

Cannot stress enough how good it is to have this level of support from the business . Ever present work pressures are one thing and you get used to them, but as someone who is transitioning from caring for children (needed less) to caring for parents (needed a whole lot more than I anticipated) that brings a whole new set of pressures to your work life balance . Knowing that your employer is there for you to allow you to share the burden is a huge relief. Nice work HR teams. ??

As someone who has felt lonely and disconnected (and felt the consequences) this year’s MHAW is clearly close to my heart – being able to share resources, offer the support of trusted partners, invite experts in and generally open up the conversation with and between colleagues about mental wellbeing is invaluable. We’re definitely on a journey at Princes but we’re starting to feel the positive difference #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #Princes #mentalhealth #FMCG

It is great that we feel more able to mark important events like Mental Health Awareness Week as we strive to make Princes an increasingly inclusive place to work. As the Accessibility Champion for the Group, I can vouch for the enthusiasm of our volunteer colleague CRG members and while we all recognise that there is no simple big win, seeing the difference we are making little by little makes me proud #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #Princes #mentalhealth #FMCG
