The Mental Game of Career Success - What You Need to Know

So much in life is predicated on how we show up.
Showing up well prepared gives us an edge. Feeling overwhelmed and unsure? Not so much.
Somehow we are lead to believe that our credentials ... a degree, specific training or experience completely paves the way or entitles us to a “successful” career.
Your credentials are something that you were able to acquire by exerting a specific type of effort over a period of time. But what you bring to the table, day in and day out has a much bigger impact on the trajectory of your career overall.
According to Mental Toughness.com - Mental toughness is the ability to resist, manage and overcome doubts, worries, concerns, and circumstances that prevent you from succeeding, or excelling at a task or towards an objective or a performance outcome that you set out to achieve."
And …
According to Psychology Today - Self-awareness involves monitoring our inner worlds, thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. It is important because it’s a major mechanism influencing personal development.
The perfect credentials along with the greatest business model or career opportunity will not automatically result in lifelong happiness or success. Having mental toughness combined with self-awareness, however, offers you a skill set necessary to overcome life's little twists and turns that can throw us off track.
Having the discipline to train your brain (for some of us it’s a daily, lifelong practice) allows you to move from challenge to challenge with the ability to rise above and view the bigger picture rather than letting small setbacks turn into big obstacles.
Here are just a few thought leaders, along with an impactful piece of their body of work, that I’ve benefited from, over the years, in terms of building the mental toughness and self-awareness necessary to thrive in today's ever-evolving business landscape.
Napoleon Hill - The Law of Success, Think and Grow Rich
Og Mandino - The Greatest Salesman in the World
Albert Einstein - The Expanded Quotable Einstein

The Successful Mind Podcast - David Neagle
The Life Coach School - Brooke Castillo

5 年"recruitment is mainly based on academic credentials" No, recruitment is mainly based on EXPERIENCE. Except for sales and Mcjobs, there are no jobs that require no experience.? ? Without experience, the academic credentials are worthless. If recruitment was primarily be based on academic credentials, we'd see entry level jobs that required no experience that were not sales or Mcjobs.?
