Menstrual Health through the Teenage Years: A Thought Leadership Journey with The Nursery

GKA has been delighted to collaborate with The Nursery, contributing as their fieldwork partner to their latest research as part of their Thought Leadership Series on Women’s Health. In this edition, their focus has been on exploring and understanding the challenges experienced during menstruation for young girls. How we worked together:??

Engaging teenage girls on such a sensitive topic posed its challenges, but at GKA, we adopted a comprehensive approach to ensure we gave The Nursery the best chance of generating insights.?

1. Recruitment: Working with parents, the GKA team successfully recruited 10 teenage girls, with the support of their parents, to participate in the research.?

1. Regular contact: Maintaining continuous communication with the parents throughout the study was essential to ensure the completion of each task.??

1. Reassurance and flexibility: Prior to the research, the GKA team took deliberate steps to ensure the participants fully understood the information they would be required to provide.?

1. The Nursery also supported GKA by providing various options for the teenage girls to share their responses, be it through videos, audio recordings, or typed responses, to ensure they felt comfortable and could fully participate.??

The Nursery’s reflections on partnering with GKA:?

Having GKA as our fieldwork partner proved to be a delightful experience. The team at GKA shared the same level of passion and enthusiasm for the project as we did. Philippa and Emily maintained constant contact, ensuring that the project ran smoothly. Given the sensitive nature of the topic and the challenges with engaging this audience in research, GKA’s support was invaluable. We were really impressed by the high level of engagement exhibited by every participant, resulting in brilliant insights.???

When challenges emerged during the project with our platform, the GKA team remained unfazed and worked diligently to keep all participants engaged. Beyond simply delivering the research, it was gratifying to collaborate with a fieldwork agency that shares our core philosophy that every participant should be treated as a person, not just a market research respondent. This approach ensured a high level of engagement and trust among the girls, and their parents, enabling deeper insights to be gained.??

Participants reflections on taking part in the research:?

“I enjoyed taking part in the research. I feel like it enabled me to reflect on my own period journey, and I quite liked that as it made me ponder over topics in my own journey that I had either forgotten about or never really thought about.?I learnt a lot about myself. I had the chance to answer questions that took me back in time; it really made me realise how tough my first period was. That’s something I had definitely blocked out of my mind for a while but taking part in this research really helped consolidate my entire period journey so far and made me realise how my periods as an adult are entirely different to how they were when I was much younger.”???
