Menopause In the Workplace And How To Support It As An Employer

The menopause is having a huge impact in the workplace for women and those assigned female at birth (AFAB). Up to a third of these communities will experience severe menopausal symptoms that can impact their quality of life – not to mention the quality of their time at work. Recent research has found that 30% of women and those AFAB surveyed have taken sick leave due to their symptoms – but only one quarter of these individuals felt they could talk to their manager about the truth of their absence.

Learning Curve Group have launched the UK’s first ever accredited qualification on understanding menopause in the workplace. Although the menopause experience is not the same for everybody, this Innovate Awarding Level 2 qualification will support increasing knowledge and breaking stigma associated with the menopause.

Now more than ever, employers should be offering awareness and support to this population of employees.?

Why menopause is a company-wide issue:

Research has shown that around 10% of women and those AFAB pass up promotions, reduce their hours, or even leave their jobs due to their menopausal symptoms. Menopause is not solely a gender or age issue, but it can impact on colleagues both directly and indirectly and should therefore be considered an organisational issue.?

Employers and managers should be fully informed on the menopause and aware of indirect effects of the menopause that can affect people through close family members, friends and significant others.?

Who can and who should take this course?

Anybody of working age (16 and over) can access this qualification and it will be particularly applicable to those seeking entry into job roles which require knowledge of menopause in the workplace. This qualification will look increasingly appealing in the skillsets and on the CVs of those entering HR professions and people-related roles alongside those pursuing healthcare roles.?

Learner benefits:

Accredited online courses are a brilliant way for employers, businesses and individuals to showcase their awareness of human rights issues and drive their reputation as inclusive, diverse and equal-minded.?

This qualification can be used as CPD for line managers and HR professionals, or other employees looking to become a ‘menopause champion’ as it aims to enable positive behaviours, positive thinking, and understanding around the challenges of the menopause.
