The menacing realism of AI

In the classroom of AIs, a new cool kid has joined the batch and has got everyone talking about it. Yes, that’s the generative AI ChatGPT.?
This revolutionary technology by OpenAI has got people worried about its extreme human-like responses to almost every question.?
In a recent update, to make the software be more close to reality, OpenAI is developing an upgrade to its viral chatbot that users can customise, as it works to address concerns about bias in artificial intelligence.
With this new cool kid gaining all the traction, ChatGPT has become the fastest online platform to reach 100 million monthly users in just two months.?
It is realistic to this extent that in a recent study by McAfee, 78 per cent Indians failed to identify the difference between a love letter written by ChatGPT and another by a human this Valentine’s Day. About 62 per cent of Indian adults also planned to use AI to help write their love letter for this very same reason.
A few even experienced the chatbot giving advice on hacking a Facebook account, plagiarising an essay, and telling a racist joke.
Teachers are also worried about the aspect of students getting their homework done by ChatGPT. According to a report, some of the largest US school districts, including New York City, have banned the AI chatbot over concerns of plagiarism and cheating among students.
For copywriters, this technology has become the villain. To be fair, why would any brand pay salaries to their writers when an open and free software could do it for literally no cost, that too, in a jiffy.?
But can this technology totally eradicate the need of human employees? And if not, how will one know if one has just copied the responses of AIs instead of using their own creativity?
Well, OpenAI has solved the second half of our problem by launching a software tool to identify text generated by artificial intelligence. As of now though, the developer has admitted that the detection tool is very unreliable on texts under 1,000 characters.?
Further, jokes on racism and unethical advises by AI still remain a worrying concern. Developers need to come up with long term practical solutions to deal with such issues.
And coming to the job threat for copywriters, the best way forward would be to make their work truly more creative and not just grammatically correct. Probably using AI to their own advantage for ideas and SEO would be a better way to kill the devil with kindness.
