It’s 2018 – and men are an important part of the conversation. My goal with Canadian Business Chicks has never been about man-bashing or exclusion – it’s been about celebration, empowerment, and moving mountains together. And this year the word UNITE has been top of mind for me.
As I noodled what UNITE meant to Canadian Business Chicks last month it became obvious that we had to find practical ways to include men in our conversations if we were truly going to move the needle on business women in Canada. My challenge to members is to start include men in our events – Moms bring your sons to our Moms the Word event in May!
After talking to our champions, we created an annual membership geared towards men looking to make a real difference in the lives of their female colleagues. Our SupportHER Membership is for men who want to show leadership and stand in the gap for the female employees that work with them every day. A mission of this package is to support and propel women and men to be vocal leaders who articulate the need for equal numbers of men and women at the table, wherever that metaphorical table may be.
Male ‘champions’ genuinely believe in fairness, gender equality, and the development of talent in their organizations. This membership will highlight what men can do differently – how do they stand up to peer pressure or dated and antiquated thoughts of organizational cultures where the female representation is lacking? Canadian Business Chicks can bring gender inclusiveness and education to the forefront with this package.
SupportHER members:
- Commit to ensuring the thought leadership on our panels is gender diverse and add women to planning committees.
- Attend meetings with women, we want to be leaders in creating diverse teams in all forms.
- Talk about gender issues – women shouldn’t be doing this alone.
Do you know a guy that encompasses what it is to be a Canadian Business Chicks supporter? Tag them in this note – because this is his chance to stand up as a leader in the community. Learn more about this new membership level on our website.
