Men Don’t Get Raped Because ‘They Are Men’

‘Mom, that aunt touched me in a bad way’ – ‘no, son, ‘she must be showing affection to you’’. ‘I have been raped’ - ‘are you kidding? Who rapes a man?’. ‘I want to file a case against my violent wife, she beats me’ - ‘your wife beats you? Are you even a man’?

In our country, if a woman gets raped, we try to sympathize with her and do everything possible to get her the justice she deserves. From social media posts to candle marches, from YouTube videos to hang till death announcement, everything is done to get the judgement in favor of the girl who is raped but when a man is raped, the same people laugh their ass off.

No doubt considering men – the stronger gender and women - the weaker gender is bigoted but isn’t it a repression act to pressurize men by throwing social tags such as ‘men don’t cry’, ‘men don’t get raped’, ‘men can’t be defeated by women’ on them and make them feel anxious about the fact that something bad has happened with them too. Social pressure is one of the biggest reasons that boys and men can’t talk about this openly. Isn’t it more gut-wrenching?

The topic like Gender disparity mainly focuses on how difficult it is for women to survive in India with such discrimination but no one talks about those boys or men who had to hide the harassment they have been through just because they are men. Fortunately, with the developing mind-set of Indian Government, various things which were once a taboo have been officially accepted but still the mind-set of various people needs to be changed.

Sexual harassment, child labor, human trafficking, domestic violence are not the cases which are only women centric, these happen with men too. As per the government research in India, 53.2% of total children have been reported to been victim of child abuse and surprisingly 52.9% of them were boys. If this is not the case to worry about, then I don’t know what is!

That’s a stupefying note on a commonsensical topic which is still untouched. We as men are raised as ninjas trained to not to cry and complain. And this is what shifting us to a inane state, several kids get ill-treated but being born into the manly state all the rights gets seized. But thanks to people like you who gave a shine to this through your well articulated notes.
